    摘要: A bearing structure used in a pivot bearing for freely supporting the rotation of a head arm of a hard disk drive (HDD). The bearing structure includes an inner shaft, an outer sleeve, a pair of roller bearings axially spaced and interposed between the inner shaft and the outer sleeve, and a preload spring for exerting a preload on the roller bearings. The roller bearings may be provided with an outer race that is attached to the outer sleeve. Nevertheless, the coefficients of linear expansion of the inner shaft and the outer sleeve are chosen so that they are different in an axial direction. Accordingly, the coefficients of linear expansion of the inner shaft and the outer sleeve are chosen so that the rotation torque derived from the preload becomes higher as the temperature rises and lower as the temperature falls. However, the rotational torque becomes lower as the temperature of a lubricant rises and higher as the lubricant temperature falls. Thus, the changes in the rotational torque as a result of temperature change are cancelled out.

    摘要: An inertial latch for preventing an actuator arm, which is a component of a disk apparatus, from flying out from an unloading position because of an external shock. The actuator arm cannot be prevented from flying out from the unloading position because of repulsion produced when the actuator arm crashes against a stopper, by operation other than an external shock. A latch, for engaging with a point end portion of the actuator arm to prevent the actuator arm from flying out, is provided with a sensing protrusion 16e. When the actuator arm crashes against an outer crash stop, the shock causes the latch to rotate and engage with the actuator arm, whereby the actuator arm is prevented from flying out.

The multi-vortex flowmeter has a switching point between two flowmeters based on the mass flow rate. A mass flow rate Qm at the switching point in a range larger than the minimum flow rate of a vortex flowmeter and smaller than the maximum flow rate of a thermal flowmeter is determined by: Qm=K3*√P. Alternatively, a volume flow rate Q at the switching point in a range larger than the minimum flow rate of a vortex flowmeter and smaller than the maximum flow rate of a thermal flowmeter is determined by: Q=K1/√P.

According to one embodiment, a hard disk drive comprises an enclosure, a motor for rotating a magnetic disk, an actuator for supporting a head slider for accessing the disk, and a ramp for loading/unloading the head slider disposed in the enclosure. The ramp comprises a tab slide formed of a resin material having a sliding characteristic to slide a tab at a tip end of the actuator at a specific velocity, and a slit on which a reinforcement made of a resin material with higher mechanical strength than the tab slide is formed.

    摘要: Embodiments of the invention prevent contact between a peripheral edge of a magnetic disk and a counter surface of a ramp when the magnetic disk is displaced. In one embodiment, a ramp is disposed near the peripheral side surface of a magnetic disk. The ramp has magnetic disk retainers each having slide surfaces and counter surfaces respectively facing the recording surfaces of the magnetic disk. Grooves or recesses are formed in the counter surfaces to define relief spaces. When the peripheral side surface of the magnetic disk is displaced toward the counter surface by shocks exerted on the magnetic disk drive, the relief space prevents the peripheral edge from coming into contact with the counter surface. Thus the amount of particles produced by the collision of the magnetic disk with the ramp can be reduced.

    摘要: A disk drive damper avoids matching a frequency band of a sound frequency peak generated by the rotation of a spindle motor and a resonant frequency of the damper. The damper is attached to a disk drive apparatus and enabled to repress vibration. The damper includes a flat base portion and wall-thickness portions that are thicker than the flat base portion. The damper is varied in shape more freely than conventional flat dampers. Consequently, the resonant frequency of the damper can be adjusted more freely than ever.

    摘要: A liquid-crystal display system includes a data driver, a scan driver, a liquid-crystal panel, a line memory (204 in FIG. 2) in which input display data (101) for representing any of display-ON, display-OFF and halftone every pixel are stored for, at least, one line, and a halftone pattern generator (200) by which liquid-crystal display data (106) to be applied to the data driver are generated using the contents of the line memory and the input display data. The halftone pattern generator generates ON data in response to the input display data representing the display-ON of the pixel; it generates OFF data in response to the input display data representing the display-OFF of the pixel; and it generates the ON data and the OFF data alternately in successive frames as halftone data in response to the input display data representing the halftone display of the pixel, and it also compares the input display data of a pertinent line and those of a preceding line every line so as to invert a phase of changing-over the ON data and the OFF data in accordance with a result of the comparison. Since the number of ON pixels (or pixels for either of first and second data) for the halftone display is substantially equalized every frame, flickering can be reduced irrespective of display patterns.
