摘要： There is described an image forming apparatus, wherein a visible image retained on an intermediate transfer belt is collectively transferred to recording material by means of a collective transfer device including a transfer roller and a back-up roller. The recording material that has passed through a transfer nipping region is guided by means of a recording material guide member. In such an image forming apparatus, the intermediate transfer belt is set at an angle of 50.degree. or less relative to the reference line passing through the exit of the transfer nipping region between the transfer roller and the back-up roller among normals orthogonal to a line passing through the center shafts of the transfer roller and the back-up roller, in the area downstream from the transfer nipping region, and the recording material guide member is provided downward at an angle of 5.degree. to 20.degree. relative to the reference line L.

摘要： A tandem type image forming apparatus having plural image forming bodies and an intermediate transfer belt is provided, in which the intermediate transfer belt can be spaced from the image carrying bodies without causing any damage on the intermediate transfer belt. A retracting unit is provided which retracts a belt module along with a secondary transfer module such that a belt-shaped intermediate transfer belt is spaced from all of image carrying bodies.

摘要： An intermediate transfer type image forming apparatus is provided, in which a secondary transfer unit includes a secondary transfer member having a contact transfer member disposed in contact with at least the surface of an intermediate transfer medium, a bias applying unit for applying a transfer bias to transfer a toner image on the intermediate transfer medium through the secondary transfer member to a transfer medium and an inverse transfer bias having the opposite polarity to the transfer bias, and a bias switching unit for switching the applied bias of the bias applying unit so that the transfer bias is applied to an image transfer area on the intermediate transfer medium and the inverse transfer bias is applied to an image non-transfer area on the intermediate transfer medium. The apparatus is also equipped with a disturbing member for disturbing (scraping out, sweeping off or the like) toner adhering to the contact transfer member.

摘要： An image forming apparatus includes an application unit that applies to a holding unit a voltage that generates a potential difference between the holding unit and a photoconductor member such that a toner image is developed on the photoconductor member. The potential difference causes toner included in a two-component developer, held by the holding unit, to be transferred from the holding unit to the photoconductor member. A controller controls the application unit, subsequent to an expiration of an image quality assurance period throughout which a predetermined image quality is assured, such that the potential of the holding unit is decreased according to a decrease of a thickness of a photosensitive film.
