摘要: A parametric photodiode amplifier suitable for detecting light of frequency f and intensity P and having intersecting I:V curves for zero incident light and for incident light of intensity P. These photodiodes typically have an intrinsic density of carriers that is on the order of or less than the density of carriers produced by incident light of intensity P. When the photodiode is biased by an LO signal and is illuminated with modulated light of carrier frequency f, the photodiode output signal contains IF components at the difference between the frequencies of the modulation signal and the frequencies of on the order of the 23 lower harmonics of the LO signal.

摘要: Methods and apparatus provide for a touch sensitive display, in which a transparent layer is disposed over a display layer; light is directed to propagate into and/or through the transparent layer; scattered light is measured in response to an object touching a surface the transparent layer and disturbing the propagation of the light therethrough; and one or more positions at which the object touches the transparent layer are computed based on signals obtained by the step of measuring the scattered light.

摘要: An improved packing system and method are disclosed wherein a packing section includes a liquid distributor and a separator placed above the distributor so that gas rising through the liquid distributor contacts liquid in the distributor, forming a gas-liquid combination which rises in co-current flow to the separator. Liquid is collected in the separator, from which gas rises.

摘要: An apparatus and method for measuring a target environmental variable (TEV) that employs a film-bulk acoustic resonator with motion plate. The film-bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) includes an acoustic reflector formed in an FBAR wafer and a surface. A first electrode is formed on the surface of the acoustic reflector and has a surface. A piezoelectric layer is formed on the surface of the first electrode and has a surface. A second electrode is formed on the surface of the piezoelectric layer. A motion plate is suspended in space at a predetermined distance relative to the surface of the second electrode and is capacitively coupled to the FBAR.

摘要: Correlation-based motion sensor modules similar to those used in optical mice are applied to systems and methods for detecting an object in the path of a vehicle. A system for detecting an object in the path of a vehicle includes at least two correlation-based motion sensor modules and a detection engine. Each of the correlation-based motion sensor modules includes a sensor array, optics, and a correlation engine. The optics focus light onto the sensor array, the sensor array generates frames of image information, and the correlation engine correlates the frames of image information to generate an indication of the relative displacement of an object. The detection engine uses the indications of relative displacement from the correlation-based motion sensor modules to detect an object in the path of a vehicle.

摘要: Apparatus for use in fractionation, stripping, absorption, and the like, wherein a column or tower has plural vertically spaced trays each consisting of two vertically spaced rows of strips which are parallel and of which the strips of the lower row are centered below the spaces of the upper row, and has a separator above each said tray consisting of plural vertically spaced rows of upwardly facing channels which are parallel and of which the channels of one row are centered between the channels of the adjacent row or rows, the trays and separators occupying a major portion of the cross sectional area of the tower and the remainder of the cross sectional area of the tower being occupied by downcomers, whereby the tower has a major portion of its cross sectional area used for upflow of vapor and liquid, or vapor. The towers or columns according to the invention result in reduced size and cost as compared with conventional apparatuses, and result in improved efficiencies and performance.
