摘要: A barbed monofilament and a method for making the same is provided. The barbed monofilament has a substantially triangular primary cross-section defined by a periphery including first, second and third points of said triangle, and further has a plurality of barbs formed therein. Successive barbs are staggered around the periphery of the monofilament, and extend inwardly into the monofilament to a predetermined depth from the first, second and third points respectively.

摘要: The present invention is directed to processes for the manufacture of multifilament yarn, including the steps of extruding multifilaments of a polymer containing at least mole 85 percent L-lactide and not more than 15 mole percent glycolide, spinning the extruded multifilaments to form a spun yarn, passing the spun multifilament yarn through an orientation roll heated at a temperature of less than 98° C. and drawing the spun multifilament yarn to a draw ratio of at least 4:1 to form an oriented multifilament fiber, annealing the oriented multifilament yarn at a temperature greater than that of the orientation roll, and redrawing the annealed, oriented multifilament yarn by at least 10 percent at a temperature lower than the temperature of annealing.

摘要: A PGA/PLA copolymer suture fiber having a fiber tenacity of between approximately 7.2 to 8.0 grams per denier and a fiber elongation between approximately 22% and 35% is produced by a process that utilizes extruder apparatus having at least one heated zone that is maintained at a temperature of from about 20° C. below the copolymer melting point to about 5° C. above the copolymer melting point, a metering pump and a heated block that are maintained at a temperature of no more than about 40° C. above the copolymer melting point, a spinneret that is maintained at a temperature of from about 40° C. to about 60° C. above the copolymer melting point, and an elongated heated sleeve extending between six and twenty inches from the spinneret that is maintained at a temperature of at least about 60° C. above the copolymer melting point.
