    Abstract: An improved sensitivity, multiple detector ring positron emission camera utilizing time-of-flight information to localize the position of a detected annihilation is disclosed. The annihilations detected along each cross-coincidence line between any detector in one ring and a plurality of detectors on the other rings are included in the data of the image slices by determining the nearest measurement position on the plane or interplane slice to the actual location of the annihilation for summing therewith. The positional uncertainty function which characterizes the error in the measurement of the true position of an annihilation along a coincidence line is weighted by an attenuation-uniformity coefficient to determine the contributions to those measurement positions which lie closest to the coincidence line between the detectors detecting the annihilation.

    Abstract: The vein holder has an upright wall forming a central opening. The central opening is large enough to allow easy access by a needle. A bottom flange extends outwardly from the wall and rests against the patient's skin. It is the bottom surface of the flange 14 which holds the skin tight to prevent movement of the vein relative to the skin. In addition, pressure applied by the vein holder closes the vein at an end away from the syringe opening.

Red light is used for deeper veins and darker skin. The transillumination device may have a single light source able to change colors. Two different light sources, each having a different color or different transillumination devices, each having a different color, may be used for diagnostic purposes.

    Abstract: The present invention is a hand held dermoscopy epiluminescense device with a magnification lens and an associated ring of luminous diodes powered by an on board battery. Every other diode in the ring operates as first and second light sources. The even diodes are filtered by a first polarization ring and the odd diodes are filtered by a second polarization ring. Each polarization ring has an open center for the lens and openings sized and positioned to correspond to the even or odd diodes to only filter one set. A viewing polarizer is provided and is cross-polarized relative to the first polarization ring and is parallel-polarized with the second polarization ring. A three way switch which provides on demand cross-polarized, parallel-polarized and a combination thereof for epiluminescence. A second embodiment provides even diodes of a first color and odd diodes of a second color. A third embodiment employs the alternating colored diodes of the second embodiment as well as the cross and parallel polarization of the light from the diodes as found in the first embodiment.

    Abstract: A position emission tomography camera having a plurality of detector planes positioned side-by-side around a patient area to detect radiation. Each plane includes a plurality of photomultiplier tubes and at least two rows of scintillation crystals on each photomultiplier tube extend across to adjacent photomultiplier tubes for detecting radiation from the patient area. Each row of crystals on each photomultiplier tube is offset from the other rows of crystals, and the area of each crystal on each tube in each row is different than the area of the crystals on the tube in other rows for detecting which crystal is actuated and allowing the detector to detect more interplane slices. The crystals are offset by an amount equal to the length of the crystal divided by the number of rows. The rows of crystals on opposite sides of the patient may be rotated 90 degrees relative to each other.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a hand held dermoscopy epiluminescense device having a generally circular optical magnification lens incorporated into the housing of the device. A lighting array provides the light necessary for medical examination of the skin. The lighting array comprises a ring of LEDs comprising four different colored sets of LEDs each on a different lighting circuit. The four colors comprise White, UV/Blue (405 nm), green/yellow (565 nm) and orange/red (630 nm). A second embodiment provides a hand held dermoscopy epiluminescense device with a magnification lens and an associated ring of luminous diodes powered by an on board battery. Every other diode in the ring operates as first and second light sources. The even diodes are filtered by a first polarization ring and the odd diodes are filtered by a second polarization ring. In order to provide identification of which crystal is activated by radiation, the second ends of some of the crystals adjacent the photomultiplier tubes are shaped differently from others. in one embodiment, the scintillation crystals are made out of a crystal bar with grooves cut into the block.

    Abstract: Transillumination uses light to image tissues and organs, specifically the veins within the tissue. Strong ambient light hinders the imaging of veins and often, transillumination must be done in a dark or dim room. To enhance the capabilities of a transilluminator, a light shield is placed over the viewing area of the transilluminator so that turning off or dimming of ambient light is not necessary. For pediatric care, a frustroconical adapter attached to the bottom of the transilluminator. The adapter reduces the size of the viewing area.
