摘要: A liquid crystal display device can obviate the generation of an extinction pattern. In the liquid crystal display device, molecules of liquid crystal are arranged in the vertical direction with respect to the substrate at the time of applying no voltage. A plurality of protruding portions are scattered on a surface of one substrate which is brought into contact with the liquid crystal material in respective pixel regions, and projecting portions or recessed portions are provided about these protruding portions. The projecting portions or the recessed portions are substantially aligned with the directions of the respective polarization axes of one polarizer which is provided to a surface of one substrate at a side opposite to a liquid crystal side and the other polarizer which is provided to a surface of the other substrate at a side opposite to a liquid crystal side.

摘要: A liquid crystal display device includes a TFT substrate having a first alignment film formed on part of an inorganic insulating film, an overcoat film formed on a black matrix, a counter substrate having a second alignment film formed on the overcoat film, and a seal portion including a sealant. The TFT substrate is bonded to the counter substrate by the sealant. The sealant is bonded to the inorganic insulating film at the seal portion on the side where the TFT substrate is formed, with the first alignment film not being provided on the side, and, in the seal portion on the side where the counter substrate is formed, the sealant is bonded to the second alignment film but, is not bonded to the overcoat film.

摘要: The present invention prevents the shaving of an alignment film caused by a columnar spacer in a liquid crystal display device of an IPS method using photo-alignment. A plinth higher than a pixel electrode is formed at a part where a columnar spacer formed over a counter substrate touches a TFT substrate. When an alignment film of a double-layered structure is applied over the pixel electrode and the plinth, the thickness of the alignment film over the plinth reduces by a leveling effect. When photo-alignment is applied in the state, a photodegraded upper alignment film over the plinth disappears and a lower alignment film having a high mechanical strength remains. As a result, it is possible to prevent the shaving of the alignment film.

摘要: In a liquid crystal display device, a TFT substrate retains a contact hole that is formed in a passivation film, and is for connecting the TFT and the pixel electrode. And an opposite substrate retains a columnar spacer for ensuring a cell gap, and a columnar projection for misalignment prevention formed at a position corresponding to a position of the contact hole. Accordingly, misalignment between the TFT substrate and the opposite substrate is suppressed, occurrence of uneven brightness due to misalignment between pixel regions and a bright spot caused by shaving of an orientation film is prevented, and a favorable image is obtained.

A columnar spacer is formed on the counter substrate, which defines a distance between the TFT substrate and the counter substrate, and a concavo-convex pedestal is formed in a pixel region of the TFT substrate, the concavo-convex pedestal being provided in facing relation to the columnar spacer. The concavo-convex pedestal is formed with a convex portion and a concave portion at a bottom of the concavo-convex pedestal, with a top end of the columnar spacer being in contact with two or more convex portions formed on the bottom of the concavo-convex pedestal, and an area at the bottom of the concavo-convex pedestal being larger than the area at the top end of the columnar spacer.
