摘要： A liquid crystal display device can obviate the generation of an extinction pattern. In the liquid crystal display device, molecules of liquid crystal are arranged in the vertical direction with respect to the substrate at the time of applying no voltage. A plurality of protruding portions are scattered on a surface of one substrate which is brought into contact with the liquid crystal material in respective pixel regions, and projecting portions or recessed portions are provided about these protruding portions. The projecting portions or the recessed portions are substantially aligned with the directions of the respective polarization axes of one polarizer which is provided to a surface of one substrate at a side opposite to a liquid crystal side and the other polarizer which is provided to a surface of the other substrate at a side opposite to a liquid crystal side.

摘要： In a liquid crystal display device, a TFT substrate retains a contact hole that is formed in a passivation film, and is for connecting the TFT and the pixel electrode. And an opposite substrate retains a columnar spacer for ensuring a cell gap, and a columnar projection for misalignment prevention formed at a position corresponding to a position of the contact hole. Accordingly, misalignment between the TFT substrate and the opposite substrate is suppressed, occurrence of uneven brightness due to misalignment between pixel regions and a bright spot caused by shaving of an orientation film is prevented, and a favorable image is obtained.

The concavo-convex pedestal is formed with a convex portion and a concave portion at a bottom of the concavo-convex pedestal, with a top end of the columnar spacer being in contact with two or more convex portions formed on the bottom of the concavo-convex pedestal, and an area at the bottom of the concavo-convex pedestal being larger than the area at the top end of the columnar spacer.

摘要： An alignment film is given a 2-layer structure comprising a photoalignment film that is photoalignable and a low-resistivity alignment film whose resistivity is smaller than that of the photoalignment film. The photoalignment film is formed by a polyimide whose precursor is polyamide acid alkyl ester, the number molecular weight of the photoalignment film is large, and the stability of alignment of the photoalignment film by photoalignment is excellent. The low-resistivity alignment film is formed by a polyimide whose precursor is polyamide acid, the number molecular weight of the low-resistivity alignment film is small, and the resistivity of the low-resistivity alignment film is small. The 2-layer structure alignment film can be maintaining an excellent photoalignment characteristic, so DC afterimages can be controlled.

A planer electrode and a plurality of overlapping linear electrodes are formed on the first substrate with an insulation film disposed between the planar electrode and the plurality of linear electrodes. A projecting portion is formed on one of the first and second substrates and an alignment film is formed on each of the first and second substrates and on the projection portion. The alignment films are made of a photo-decomposition-type material, and a film thickness of the alignment film on the projecting portion and a film thickness of a portion of the alignment film facing the projecting portion satisfy a predetermined relationship.

摘要： An IPS liquid crystal display device intended to prevent generation of second image sticking after generation of initial DC image sticking.An alignment film has a two-layer structure comprising an upper alignment film and a lower alignment film. The upper alignment film is an optical alignment film formed of a polyamide acid ester as a precursor. The lower alignment film has a lower resistance value than the upper alignment film and also has a low photoconductive property. The lower alignment film is formed not using, as a precursor, a polyamide acid using PMDA as the starting material but using, as a precursor, the polyamide acid containing a sulfonic acid group or a carboxylic group, whereby the difference of the resistance between portions undergoing or not undergoing light irradiation in the pixel is decreased and generation of second image sticking can be prevented.
