Abstract: Described herein are devices and methods that use the electrical potentials that arise naturally in the cochlea through the activity of sensory cells and auditory neurons and resemble the output from a microphone. An example auditory prosthetic device includes an electrode array that is configured for insertion into at least a portion of a subject's cochlea and a receiver-stimulator operably coupled to the electrode array. The electrode array is configured for electrical recording and stimulation.

Abstract: A robotic system for cochlear implantation (CI) is described herein. The system includes a robotic tool configured to hold a cochlear implant electrode array and a controller that is operably coupled to the robotic tool. The controller includes a processor and a memory. The memory has computer-executable instructions stored thereon that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to control the robotic tool with the degrees of freedom of a human hand.

Abstract: Example portable devices, systems, and methods for monitoring hearing sensitivity are described herein. An example device includes a wearable member, a stimulator, and a sensor that includes a plurality of electrodes. The stimulator and the sensor are integrated into the wearable member. Additionally, the device includes a controller operably coupled to the stimulator and the sensor, and the controller is configured to deliver a stimulation signal to a subject's ear using the stimulator, and receive an electrophysiological response signal of the subject in response to the stimulation signal. The electrophysiological response signal is recorded by the sensor. Optionally, the controller is integrated into the wearable member.

Abstract: Devices and related methods for providing an electrophonic microphone are described herein. An example method includes recording, using at least one electrode, an early auditory potential, where the at least one electrode is disposed inside a subject's ear in proximity to one of the tympanic membrane, the cochlear promontory, or the round window. The method also includes processing, using a processor, the early auditory potential to generate an audio signal, and transmitting the audio signal to a receiver circuit.
