Abstract: An energy treatment instrument includes a first grasping piece, and a second grasping piece which opens or closes relative to the first grasping piece and which grasps a blood vessel between the first grasping piece and the second grasping piece. In accordance with the kind of blood vessel grasped between the first grasping piece and the second grasping piece, an actuation state of the energy treatment instrument is switched between a first mode to coagulate a blood vessel of a circulatory system, and a second mode to coagulate a blood vessel of a pulmonary circulation in contrast to the first mode.

Abstract: An energy surgical instrument includes first and second grasping pieces for grasping a blood vessel. At least one of the grasping pieces is designed to apply treatment energy to a grasped blood vessel. The instrument also includes a processor designed to set a wall thickness of the blood vessel, and a grasping force adjuster designed to adjust a grasping force applied by the first and second grasping pieces. A first grasping force is applied when the wall thickness set by the processor is larger than a predetermined thickness, and a second grasping force, which is larger than the first grasping force, is applied when the wall thickness set by the processor is equal to or smaller than the predetermined thickness. A treatment method includes applying treatment energy to a blood vessel grasped by the first and second grasping pieces of the instrument to seal the blood vessel.

Abstract: In a treatment system, an energy treatment instrument includes a pair of grasping pieces. An energy output source outputs electric energy to the energy treatment instrument, thereby applying treatment energy to a blood vessel grasped between the grasping pieces. A measurement section measures a blood pressure at a site related to the grasped blood vessel. A processor controls output of the electric energy from the energy output source based on a measurement result obtained by the measurement section, and thereby switches an actuation state of the energy treatment instrument between a first mode for coagulating the blood vessel and a second mode for coagulating the blood vessel target that is different from the first mode.
