Abstract: A hybrid optical system, and lighting devices including the same, are provided. The hybrid optical system includes a cellular optical element a light control film. The cellular optical element includes a first opening, a second opening, and a space defined therebetween. The light control film includes a single layer of light transparent material having a first side and a second side, and a plurality of first microstructures formed on the first side. The light control film is located within the space of the cellular optical element. The light control film may include a plurality of second microstructures formed on the second side to reduce glare. The hybrid optical system may include a plurality of interconnected cellular optical elements.

Abstract: Cellular lighting elements and lighting devices including the same are disclosed. A cellular lighting element includes a substrate including a solid state light source, and a light control film. The light control film is made of a single layer of light shaping material. The light control film is formed so as to create a cellular shape, which surrounds, at least in part, the solid state light source. The formed light control film and the substrate form a chamber, which defines an area. The solid state light source is located in the area within the chamber. Plurality of such cellular lighting elements may be joined together form lighting devices.

Abstract: A formed lighting device having a shape that extends in three dimensions is provided. The formed lighting device includes a formed flexible substrate having a shape, and a stretchable conductive trace located on the formable flexible substrate. A plurality of solid state light sources are attached to the stretchable conductive trace. The shape of the substrate, and thus the lighting device, extends in three dimensions and includes a three-dimensional structure that beam shapes light emitted from one of the solid state light sources. The three-dimensional structure may be a plurality of peaks and a corresponding plurality of valleys. A set of solid state light sources in the plurality of solid state light sources may be located in the plurality of valleys.

Abstract: An integrated light engine including flexible optics and a flexible light source, and lighting devices including the same, are provided. The integrated light engine includes a flexible light source configured to emit light, and flexible optics coupled to the flexible light source. The flexible optics beam shapes light emitted by the flexible light source. The integrated light engine is capable of entering a set of states, such that a portion of beam shaped light emitted by the integrated light engine in a first state is aimed in a first direction and a portion of beam shaped light emitted by the integrated light engine in a second state is aimed in a second direction. Different combinations of the flexible optics with the flexible light source result in the integrated light engine being able to enter a number of flexed states or being held in a substantially flat, substantially stiff state.

Abstract: A retrofit-style lamp is disclosed. The retrofit-style lamp includes a plurality of light sources, and a one-dimensional linear batwing lens. The one-dimensional linear batwing lens beam shapes light emitted by at least two light sources of the plurality of light sources. The retrofit-style lamp also includes a housing including the plurality of light sources, and attached to the one-dimensional linear batwing lens. The combination of housing and lens is then itself fitted with endcaps, including electrical connectors, for placement within a fixture, such as within an existing conventional fluorescent tube fixture located within a storage structure, for example a refrigeration case. Alternatively, the plurality of light sources, the one-dimensional linear batwing lens, and the housing may be formed, along with a power supply, as a standalone retrofit fixture for use in enclosed storage structures, such as refrigeration cases, where the retrofit fixture replaces a conventional fluorescent fixture.
