Abstract: Techniques are provided for temporarily allocating a new radio controlled by a spectrum access system (SAS) a frequency spectrum in shared spectrum in which to transmit, and a maximum transmit power level. The temporary frequency spectrum and optionally maximum transmit power level may be sent to the new radio so that it can commence transmitting prior to a planned, e.g., periodic, spectrum coordination is performed for all radios which had requested authorization from the SAS to transmit in the shared spectrum.

Abstract: Systems and methods for automatic frequency coordination are provided. In one embodiment, an automatic frequency coordination (AFC) system for authorizing unlicensed operator utilization of a shared spectrum band comprising channels licensed to incumbent operators comprises: a processor coupled to a memory; and an exclusion zone calculator executed by the processor, the exclusion zone calculator configured to construct an exclusion zone for an incumbent receiver antenna operating on a licensed channel of the shared band, wherein the calculator is configured to construct the exclusion zone by: calculating a set of exclusion zone radiuses along a plurality of radials of a radial grid based on applying a moving average filter to interference power values calculated for a plurality of locations along a length of each of the radials; and applying an averaging filter to the exclusion zone radiuses to define the exclusion zone between the exclusion zone radiuses and the receiver antenna.

Abstract: A method for selecting a channel for a network element in a shared spectrum communication system is provided. The method comprises identifying a plurality of candidate channels of a frequency band of the shared spectrum communication system. For each of the plurality of candidate channels, the method further comprises determining at least one transmit power estimate based on at least one available interference margin. The at least one available interference margin is based on a power allocation protocol for the shared spectrum communication system. The method further comprises scoring each of the plurality of candidate channels based on the at least one transmit power estimate. The method further comprises ranking the plurality of candidate channels based on the scores for each of the plurality of candidate channels. The method further comprises selecting one of the plurality of candidate channels based on the ranking of the plurality of candidate channels.
