Abstract: An aerosol-generating system is provided, including a nicotine source; a volatile delivery enhancing compound source downstream of the nicotine source and including an acid; heating means for heating the nicotine source; and a physically separate heat transfer barrier between the nicotine source and the volatile delivery enhancing compound source. The heating means is configured to heat the nicotine source to a temperature of between about 80° C. and about 150° C. The heat transfer barrier is configured so that the temperature of the volatile delivery enhancing compound source is less than about 50° C. when the nicotine source is heated to a temperature of between about 80° C. and about 150° C. by the heating means.

Abstract: A method of controlling a heater in an aerosol-generating device is provided, the device including: a heater including a heating element configured to heat an aerosol-forming substrate, and a power source configured to provide power to the heating element; and the method including the steps of: controlling power provided to the heating element such that in a first phase, power is provided to increase a temperature of the heating element from an initial temperature to a first temperature, and in a second phase, power is provided to decrease the temperature of the heating element below the first temperature to a second temperature, the power being provided to the heating element during the first phase is increased at least once during a duration of the first phase, and aerosol is produced during the second phase.

Abstract: An aerosol-generating system is provided, including a cartridge and an aerosol-generating device; the cartridge including a cartridge body defining a substrate compartment and a heater cavity, and an aerosol-forming substrate positioned within the substrate compartment; the aerosol-generating device including a housing defining a device cavity configured to receive at least a portion of the cartridge body, and an elongate electric heater disposed in the device cavity; and a thermally conductive sheath secured over the elongate electric heater such that the electric heater is substantially enclosed within the thermally conductive sheath along at least part of a length thereof; in which the thermally conductive sheath and the electric heater are configured to extend into the heater cavity of the cartridge when the cartridge is received in the device cavity such that the substrate compartment of the cartridge is heated by the electric heater via the thermally conductive sheath.

Abstract: A method of producing a liquid tobacco extract is provided, the method including the steps of: preparing a tobacco starting material including natural tobacco material such that during the step of preparing the tobacco starting material, the tobacco is not subjected to any treatment adapted to alter the pH of the tobacco; heating the tobacco starting material in a flow of inert gas at an extraction temperature of between 125 degrees Celsius and 160 degrees Celsius for between 90 minutes and 270 minutes; collecting volatile compounds released from the natural tobacco starting material during the heating step; and forming a liquid tobacco extract comprising the collected volatile compounds.

Abstract: An aerosol-generating device is provided, for use in an aerosol-generating system and an aerosol-generating system including an aerosol-generating device and an aerosol-generating article. Abstract: An aerosol-generating article for producing an inhalable aerosol upon heating comprises a plurality of components including an aerosol-forming substrate. The aerosol-forming substrate is in the form of a hollow tubular segment defining a substrate cavity extending between an upstream end of the aerosol-forming substrate and a downstream end of the aerosol-forming substrate. The aerosol-forming substrate comprises a plurality of thermally conductive particles and an aerosol-former. The combination of tubular geometry and thermally conductive particles allows swifter time to first puff, improved efficiency of aerosol extraction and lighter weight of aerosol-generating article.

Abstract: There is provided a cartridge for an aerosol-generating system, the cartridge including: a first compartment having a first air inlet and a first air outlet, the first compartment containing a nicotine source including a first carrier material impregnated with between about 1 milligram and about 40 milligrams of nicotine; and a second compartment having a second air inlet and a second air outlet, the second compartment containing a lactic acid source including a second carrier material impregnated with between about 2 milligrams and about 60 milligrams of lactic acid. An aerosol-generating system is also provided, including the cartridge and an aerosol-generating device including a housing defining a cavity configured to receive at least a portion of the cartridge; and a heater configured to heat the first compartment and the second compartment of the cartridge.
