    摘要： An open top hopper car is provided with a plurality of hoppers having lower discharge openings. Underneath each hopper, a pair of hinged doors are swingable downwardly and outwardly to a discharging position by motor actuated mechanism. The actuating mechanism includes vertically extending levers pivotally connected to the hopper and interconnected to so that hinging movement of one lever causes hinging movement of the other lever and the levers are moved out of supporting engagement with the doors whereby the doors are opened by gravity. The levers are also provided with camming means at their lower edges which engage cams provided on the doors for moving the doors to the closed position upon rotation of the levers. The camming arrangement provides for an effective closing of the doors and maintains the same in their closed position.

    摘要： A discharge arrangement for hopper structures including a sliding gravity gate which is movable to open and closed positions relative to the hopper structure with the gate being movable by a manually operable mechanism. A pneumatic discharge pan is positioned beneath the gate and may be selectively interconnected by an indexing arrangement with the gate to move therewith to the open and closed positions. The manually selectable indexing arrangement by movement of a single rotating shaft is adapted to connect the discharge pan to the gate for movement therewith, to lock the pan in position underneath the discharge opening of a hopper with the gate moved to an out-ofthe-way position, and to lock both the gate and the discharge pan in a closed position.

    摘要： This invention relates to an ore plow which displaces the discharged lading from the surface of railway tracks to prevent a buildup of the lading which could result in a derailment. The ore plow is pivotally suspended beneath the car and operates in conjunction with the door operating levers, being lowered into position to clear the tracks when the hopper doors are opened and returning to an inoperative or raised position upon closing the hopper doors. The plow has a lower edge to clear ore off the rails and has plow deflecting members to divert ore away from the rails, or in alternate form plow deflecting member to divert the ore in between the rails.

    摘要： In a railroad hopper car, a power-operated hopper door opening and closing mechanism for an interconnected pair of sequentially opening and closing overlapping pivotally interconnected master and slave bottom hopper doors, the door-operating mechanism including longitudinally extending drive means having vertically extending lever means pivotally supported on the car center sill and having an upper end portion pivotally connected with air cylinder means for movement of the lever means and having a lower end portion pivotally connected with laterally extending door arm means and movable into overcenter door locking relation therewith, the door arm means connecting with the overlapping master hopper door for opening and closing same and the slave door sequentially thereby, housing means for the lever means mounted on the center sill and having a pair of longitudinally spaced opposed roller stops, roller means in the housing means pivotally carrying the lever means and selectively engageable with one of the two stops and with a fixed abutment on the center sill below the housing means whereby the lever means develops a high-mechanical power advantage moment arm between the air cylinder means and the abutment for initial powered opening of the master door in passing by said overcenter locking relation and a longer moment arm between one of the stops in the housing means and the door arm means for final quick travel gravity opening of both bottom doors. In alternate form additional fulcrum means are provided to give an improved mechanical advantage lever means on closing of the hopper doors.

    摘要： A hopper car including a plurality of longitudinally spaced discharge openings forming a trough type discharge arrangement having converging slope sheets which provide a plurality of spaces separating the discharge openings. A discharge gate arrangement includes a closure gate for each of the discharge openings, the gate comprising a plurality of individual sections which are sequentially movable into the spaces between the discharge openings to an out-of-the-way open position with the sections vertically stacked within said spaces. The spaces provided between the discharge openings also support, on a frame structure therein, rotatable shafts including reel means or pulley arrangements about which chains are trained, the said chains being connected to one of the gate sections for sequentially moving the sections between the open and closed positions. Another shaft is positioned adjacent each opening provided at opposite ends of the car to which the chains of one of the pulleys within the space are connected for operating the movement of the discharge gates. During the opening of each gate, the shaft is rotated so that the chain winds around the pulley and during the initial opening a high torque is exerted on the first gate section to move the same and the speed of the initial movement is comparatively slow. As the chain further winds onto the pulley, the gate sections are moved more rapidly and less torque is exerted by virtue of the chain winding. The converse is achieved when it is desired to close the gate; the other cooperating shaft and pulley initially exert a high operating torque to move the first section of the gate and as the chain winds about the last mentioned pulley the diameter increases lessening the torque and increasing the speed of operation.
