    摘要: Various systems and methods determine a distance, magnitude, and azimuthal angle describing the location of an anomaly within a geologic formation. For example, a method involves identifying an electrical characteristic (e.g., resistivity or conductivity) at each of several sensors in a measurement-while-drilling (MWD) tool. Based on the electrical characteristic, information identifying a formation property of the anomaly is generated. The information includes at least one magnitude and at least one distance. Information information identifying an azimuthal angle is also generated based upon the electrical characteristic. The azimuthal angle relates a position of the anomalous formation to a position of a first sensor in the MWD tool.

A second set of one or more columns of the database table is chosen. An index record is generated for each unique result of applying a second function to a value corresponding to the second set for the database table rows. In each index record, only a single copy of each unique result of applying a first function to a value corresponding to the first set for the database table rows having the result of applying the second function to a value corresponding to the second set for that index record is included. The first set is not identical to the second set. At least two rows of the database table rows have the same result of applying the second function to a value corresponding to the second set and have the same result of applying the first function to the value corresponding to the first set.

The system also includes a partitioned table access component configured to select rows from the table by creating a file context, which stores at least location data for a row and a first value associated with the row, for each populated partition, determining the lowest first value stored by the file contexts, and identifying rows with a particular first value by reading the file contexts.

    摘要: In an MWD system, a mandrel for connection to the drill bit is set forth which supports shallow, intermediate and deep measuring resistivity systems. By transmitting upwardly and downwardly in alternate fashion, and receiving the transmitted signal at pairs of receiver coils, transmitted signal phase shift and attenuation are measured. A method of measuring is set forth which includes making resistivity measurements close to the drill bit at increasing ranges from the borehole so that formation resistivity prior to fluid invasion is obtained. Measurements are thus provided of formation resistivity before, during and after fluid invasion. The method also accommodates formations which have a relative dip angle with respect to the well borehole.

    摘要: A digital induction resistivity logging tool is disclosed for digitally measuring both the in-phase (R) and quadrature (X) phase components in a receiver signal generated in response to transmitter induced currents flowing in the earth's sub-surface formations. The digital indication tool includes a digital sinewave generator for generating a highly phase stable, low distortion transmitter signal, the frequency of which is selectable from among a plurality of transmitter frequencies. One phase sensitive detector is used alternately to detect both the R and the X phase component signals. Automatic phase compensation is included to periodically compensate for both static and dynamic temperature dependent phase shift errors due to circuits of the tool involved in the component measurements. A floating point analog-to-digital converter capable of handling the wide dynamic range in the detected phase component signals is provided to convert the phase detector output into digital signals.

    摘要: A wet-connect can include a radial array of contacts that are electrically isolated from each other. The wet-connect can include a male connector and a female connector. The contacts are placed at spaced distances from each other around the outside diameter of the male connector and the inside diameter of the female connector. Because the contacts are spaced around the radius of the connectors, the length of the wet-connect does not have to depend upon the number of contacts provided by the wet-connect. This in turn can reduce the length of the wet-connect, making the wet-connect less susceptible to breakage or misalignment and/or allowing the wet-connect to be manufactured using less material.

    摘要: Various systems and methods for implementing an azimuthally sensitive resistivity logging tool are disclosed. One such method involves transmitting a primary magnetic field from one or more coils placed on a drill collar and receiving several electrical signals, where each of the electrical signals is received from a respective one of several sensors. The sensors are distributed around a circumference of a drill collar, and an axis of at least one of the sensors is perpendicular to an axis of the drill collar. Each of the electrical signals indicates a respective magnitude of a measurement of a reflected magnetic field, where the reflected magnetic field is reflected from an anomalous geological formation. The method calculates a vector measurement of the reflected magnetic field, based upon the electrical signals.
