The present invention provides a temperature controlled energy transparent window or electrode used to advantage in a substrate processing system. The invention also provides methods associated with controlling lid temperature during processing and for controlling etching processes. In a preferred embodiment the invention provides a fluid supply system for the lid which allows the fluid to flow through a feedthrough and into and out of a channel formed in the window or electrode. The fluid supply system may also mount the window or electrode to a retaining ring which secures the window or electrode to the chamber. In another aspect the invention provides a bonded window or electrode having a first and second plate having a channel formed in the plates so that when the plates are bonded together they form a channel therein through which a temperature controlling fluid can be flowed. An external control system preferably regulates the temperature of the fluid.

A method for electrohydrodynamic printing wherein multiple colors are printed by discharging the receiving medium by reverse-sign corona discharge, then charging the receiving medium by corona discharge, and then printing the first color. The receiving medium is then discharged, and charged a second time by corona discharge. The process is repeated for each color used in the printing. As a result, the colors are printed in their intended locations without deflection even if the intended location is a dot of previously deposited color.

The mounting assembly (18) includes a mounting bracket (20) having (i) a first component mount (242) for retaining the optical component (14), (ii) a first rod aperture (234) that receives the first alignment rod (316A) and a first rod lock (236) that selectively locks the first alignment rod (316A) to the mounting bracket (20), (iii) a second rod aperture (238) that receives the second alignment rod (316B) and a second rod lock (240) that selectively locks the second alignment rod (316B) to the mounting bracket (20), and (iv) a third rod aperture (356) that receives the third alignment rod (316C) and a third rod lock (358) that selectively locks the third alignment rod (316C) to the mounting bracket (20). The rod apertures (234) (238) (356) are spaced apart in a fashion to form the corners of an obtuse triangle (364). With this design, the mounting bracket (20) securely retains the optical component (14) while providing unobstructed access to the optical axis (22) for the easy and at-will insertion and removal of the optical components (14). Tunable external cavity lasers are used in applications such as interferometry, FM spectroscopy, and optical communications equipment testing. Mode hop free high bandwidth frequency modulation operation is desired in a tunable external cavity laser. This application describes new and novel techniques for controlling the output wavelength of a tunable external cavity laser while suppressing mode hop.
