    摘要: The present invention relates to a dimmer control circuit (100) capable to detect whether a phase-cut dimmer is connected using an average signal (VDCI) derived from the mains voltage. The average signal (VDCI) or a signal (VDCI_ls) derived from (VDCI), ranging from a minimum value to a maximum value, is compared to a dimming threshold (Vdim_th) through a phase-cut detecting unit (20). The comparison result is used to control the state diagram of a dimmer control logic (40) by selecting the step dimming mode (STD) or the phase-cut dimming mode (PCD). The output (OUT) of a switching unit (30) is determined by the state diagram of the dimmer control logic (40) in such a manner that the phase-cut dimming mode (PCD) is prioritized above the step-dimming mode (STD) and the maximum level of the STD states is depending on the mains voltage and application adjustable.

    摘要: A method of controlling a Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) is disclosed, which enables the lamp to be dimmed during a quick-start mode in which the lamp current may be boosted. The method involves determining a boost value and a dimming value, and controlling the lamp power in dependence on the boost and dimming values. A dimming threshold may be set, below which (i.e. at dimmer output light levels) the boost function is disabled. Hysteresis may be included in the control, in order to avoid hopping between modes. A controller for use with a fluorescent lamp which is adapted to operate according to such a method and a fluorescent lamp using such a controller are also disclosed.

    摘要: A surge protection circuit is disclosed for an electrical Load which may be for instance an LED load which is directly connected to a supply such as mains supply, and comprises a plurality of switches which are distributed across a plurality of semiconductor die. A surge detector detects the start of a spike in the supply, which results from, for example the commencement or interruption of a nearby inductive load, and opens all the switches. By distributing the switches across multiple die the peak voltage across each is reduced relative to using a single die; thereby each die can stay within the absolute maximum voltage capacity. Each die may have its own surge detector; alternatively, a single surge detector may be used which communicates with the switches on each of the die. In an extension the bridge rectifier may be integrated into the circuit distributed across the die. In this embodiment additional inter-die clamping diodes are required to prevent unsafe floating of the edge connections of each die.

A lumped wavelength range of the set of LEDs is a range of said first and second wavelength sub-ranges, and the set of characteristics of the set of LEDs is a function of said first and second sets of characteristics. A method for controlling the sets of LEDs is also disclosed.

Determination of either a leading or trailing edge phase cut dimmer may be made by looking for deviation from the expected sine-wave voltage, either directly through temporal or voltage deviation, or indirectly by examining the second differential of the voltage with respect to time.

    摘要: A method is disclosed of controlling a LED, comprising driving the LED with a DC current for a first time, interrupting the DC current for a second time such that the first time and the second time sum to a period, determining at least one characteristic of the LED whilst the DC current is interrupted, and controlling the DC current during a subsequent period in dependence on the at least one characteristic. The invention thus benefits from the simplicity of DC operation. By operating at the LED in a DC mode, rather than say in a PWM mode, the requirement to be able to adjust the duty cycle is avoided. By including interruptions to the DC current, it is possible to utilise the LED itself to act as a sensor in order to determine a characteristic of the LED. The need for additional sensors is thereby avoided.

The method comprising the steps of determining a first luminous flux weight ratio based on the desired color and a first drive current for driving each of the differently colored LEDs, determining a first luminous flux for each of the differently colored LEDs based on the desired brightness and the first luminous flux weight ratio, comparing, for each of the differently colored LEDs, the first luminous flux with a nominal luminous flux for a plurality of different drive currents, selecting, for each of the differently colored LEDs, a preferred drive current that at least can produce the first luminous flux, determining a second luminous flux weight ratio based on the desired color and the selected drive currents for each of the differently colored LEDs, determining a second luminous flux for each of the differently colored LEDs based on the desired brightness and the second luminous flux weight ratio, and determining a duty cycle for each of the differently colored LEDs at the selected drive currents, wherein the selected currents at the determined duty cycles produces the second luminous flux for each of the differently colored LEDs. The present invention provides for the possibility to limit the number of necessary computational steps for determining preferred drive currents. Furthermore, an increase in number of current level and/or differently colored LEDs would only slightly increase the computational cost.
