    摘要: A single-ended lamp having a double-ended light-source capsule mounted axially within an outer envelope on thermally conductive support members such that the amount of heat conducted to the base region of the lamp through each support member is approximately equal. In a preferred embodiment, a high-pressure sodium PAR lamp having a temperature-sensitive component in the lamp base employs two support wires for the arc tube; the support wire coupled with the arc tube end closer to the lamp base has a loop formed therein so that the lengths of both support wires are approximately equal and the thermal conductivity of both support wires are also approximately equal in the operating environment of the lamp; whereby the temperature-sensitive component operates within acceptable temperature limits. In alternate embodiments, each support member may employ one or more loops or other configurations in order to minimize the amount of heat transferred to the lamp base through conduction in the support members. The invention has particular application in lamps having temperature-sensitive components or materials in the base region of the lamp, or where the temperature of the lamp socket or its surroundings is particularly constrained.

    摘要: An electric lamp includes an arc tube assembly mounted in a lamp envelope including a reflector, a lens and a base for connection to an electrical source. The arc tube assembly includes an arc tube having a longitudinal axis aligned with the optical axis of the reflector, a light-transmissive shroud disposed around the arc tube, first and second clips attached to opposite ends of the arc tube, a connection member attached to the first and second clips such that the shroud is retained between the first and second clips in a fixed position relative to the arc tube, and upper and lower electrode supports for mechanically supporting the arc tube in the lamp envelope entirely from the base region and for coupling electrical energy to the arc tube. A support ring is positioned in a heel region of the lamp envelope and is attached to the connection member. The support ring cushions the arc tube assembly when the lamp is subjected to mechanical shock. The connection member includes a connection rod having a first section located outside the shroud between the first and second clips and a second section extending between the first section and the support ring.

    摘要: An electric lamp includes a lamp assembly mounted in a lamp envelope including a reflector, a lens and a base for connection to an electrical source. The lamp assembly includes an arc tube having a longitudinal axis aligned with the optical axis of the reflector, an arc tube support strap attached to one end of the arc tube and including legs extending laterally in opposite directions from the axis of the arc tube, bulb spacers coupled to the legs of the support strap for positioning the arc tube relative to the lamp envelope, a light-transmissive shroud around the arc tube, and electrode supports coupled to the upper and lower electrode leads of the arc tube. The shroud includes an open end which abuts against the legs of the support strap and a domed end which substantially encloses one end of the arc tube. The electrode supports are electrically isolated from the support strap, the bulb spacers and the reflector. The shroud is secured between the support strap and one of the electrode supports. The domed end of the shroud is preferably located at the lens end of the arc tube, but can also be located at the base end of the arc tube.

    摘要: An arc discharge tube has electrodes supported by hollow electrode support tubes at each end. A slot is formed in the electrode support tube. One edge of the slot is depressed inwardly to form a concave surface. The slot is located adjacent to the end cap of the arc tube and provides access to the interior of the electrode support tube. After the electrode assembly is sealed into one end of the arc tube, amalgam particles are dispensed into the arc tube. The arc tube is agitated rapidly, causing the amalgam particles to pass through the slot and drop into the interior of the electrode support tube. The amalgam particles are isolated from heat during sealing of the other end of the arc tube.

    摘要: A metal halide arc discharge lamp comprising: an arc tube containing an arc generating and sustaining medium and having first and second electrodes sealed at opposite ends thereof; an outer envelope surrounding said arc tube and having first and second terminals for electrical connection thereto; an electrical connector coupling said first electrode to said first terminal; an electrical connector coupling said second electrode to said second terminal; a heat reflecting coating on at least one end of said arc tube; a starting aid operatively associated with said arc tube; and a light transmissive shroud positioned about said arc tube on at least two sides thereof; said arc tube having a given wall thickness of about 0.5 mm and said shroud having a thickness greater than said given thickness, the ratio of said shroud wall thickness to said arc tube wall thickness being about 2. The lamp has an increased CRI over lamps made with thicker-walled arc tubes and the thinner arc tube material allows the use of 1 mm thick shrouds which still provide containment in the event of an arc tube burst.
