Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for selecting a public land mobile network (PLMN) based on route information. A method that may be performed by a wireless node includes camping on a first cellular network on a first frequency band of one or more first frequency bands associated with a first mobile country code (MCC) of a planned route of the wireless node; detecting a condition with the first cellular network after the camping on the first cellular network; and searching, after detecting the condition, for service on the one or more first frequency bands and one or more second frequency bands associated with a second MCC, wherein the one or more second frequency bands are selected based on the first MCC and the planned route.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, devices, apparatus, and methods, including computer programs encoded on storage media, for a scan reduction associated with legacy RATs. A UE may receive, from a database, an indication that a first RAT is unavailable for communications associated with a PLMN. The indication that the first RAT is unavailable may be based on one or more unsuccessful scans for the first RAT. The UE may scan for a second RAT based on a skipped scan for the first RAT. The skipped scan may be based on the indication that the first RAT is unavailable. The UE may communicate with the PLMN based on the scan for the second RAT and the skipped scan for the first RAT.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for efficiently falling back from one RAT to another RAT while maximizing the services available to a UE. When a request from a UE for communicating with a base station using one RAT is rejected by a network node for unexpected causes, the UE may use the techniques described herein to fallback to an appropriate RAT. For instance, after receiving a response indicating that a request including fifth generation (5G) parameters is rejected, the UE may drop the 5G parameters and fall back to fourth generation (4G), rather than falling back to second generation (2G) or third generation (3G). The unexpected causes may be preconfigured and may be determined based on a number of factors, including a subscription of the UE, a public land mobile network (PLMN) associated with the network node, etc.

Abstract: In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may receive a priority list associated with preferred radio frequencies from a serving base station. In certain aspects, each radio frequency of the preferred radio frequencies associated with a first set of base station may operate on a first RAT. In certain other aspects, the apparatus may determine if the UE is able to reselect to the first RAT. In certain other aspects, the apparatus may perform a rank-based cell reselection procedure based on signal strength when the UE is unable to reselect to the first RAT.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide an apparatus and techniques for wireless communication by a user equipment (UE), such as placing a video telephony (VT) call when a user equipment (UE) is camped on a non-Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network, such as a non-IMS Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. The UE may be in a coverage area of a first radio access technology (RAT) supported by a first standard, and in a coverage area of a second RAT supported by a second standard. The UE may determine the LTE network does not support IMS services. In response to the determination, the UE may take one or more actions to place a VT call using the second RAT which supports IMS services.
