Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The method may include determining a signal strength indication from a field of a management frame associated with one or more information elements, comparing the signal strength indication to a first threshold and a second threshold, and performing a low-power operation for at least a remaining portion of the management frame based on determining that the signal strength indication is: greater than the second threshold, or less than the first threshold, or greater than the second threshold and less than the first threshold.

The method may include determining a parameter from a physical layer convergence protocol preamble of a management frame associated with one or more information elements, determining that the parameter associated with the one or more information elements is outside a range, and performing a low-power operation for at least a remaining portion of the management frame based on determining that the parameter associated with the one or more information elements is outside the range.
