Abstract:
Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses are presented for determining positions of mobile devices in a peer-to-peer network group. In some embodiments, a server receives information regarding a distance between a group owner mobile device and a client mobile device in a peer-to-peer network group. The server determines whether the distance between the group owner mobile device and the client mobile device exceeds a threshold distance. If the threshold distance is not exceeded, the server associates a position of the group owner mobile device with a position of the client mobile device.
Abstract:
Techniques for controlling transmit (Tx) power of an access point (AP) in a wireless communication system are described herein. An example of a method described herein includes detecting that a positioning exchange between an AP and a mobile device has been initialized; determining an estimated coverage area of the mobile device, an estimated Tx power level of the mobile device, and/or other operating parameters of the mobile device; and controlling a power level used by the AP for transmissions to the mobile device during the positioning exchange based on the determined operating parameters of the mobile device.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for determining a location for a wireless communication device using an integrated WiFi sniffer and measurement engine are presented. The method includes utilizing a first WiFi transceiver and a second WiFi transceiver. Data communications or positioning communications can be transmitted and received on either of the first and the second WiFi transceivers, or both.
Abstract:
A method for network-based positioning of a mobile device as described herein includes selecting a first set of access points (APs) to take first positioning measurements from the mobile device; obtaining the first positioning measurements from the first set of APs; selecting, based on the first positioning measurements, a second set of APs to take second positioning measurements from the mobile device; obtaining the second positioning measurements from the second set of APs; and determining a location of the mobile device based on the first positioning measurements and the second positioning measurements.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses are presented for excluding peer-to-peer mobile device signal data from a heat map. In response to receiving an identifier of a mobile device in a peer-to-peer network group, a server may generate resultant data by excluding data associated with a signal generated by the mobile device from data used to generate a heat map. The server can generate the heat map using the resultant data.
Abstract:
Disclosed are implementations that include a method, performed by a network control device, including sending a first instruction to a first device to send a first measurement signal, and sending a second instruction to a second device to receive the first measurement signal. Following receipt of a first acknowledgement signal from the target mobile device, the first and second devices change their roles so the second device sends, and the first device receives, a second measurement signal, and the first and second devices receive a second acknowledgement signal from the target device. Position of the target device is determined based on timing measurements associated with the first and second measurement signals, the first and second acknowledgement signals, and on known positions of the first and second devices. Another network device is selected to perform additional measurements upon a determination that a desired accuracy of the position determined was not achieved.
Abstract:
Techniques for determining whether a mobile device crosses a boundary defined by a first wireless access point (WAP) and a second fixed-location WAP are provided. A method according to these techniques includes receiving, at a mobile device, information defining a boundary defined by first and second fixed-location WAPs, the boundary being defined at least in part based on a ratio of a round trip time (RTT) between the mobile device and the first fixed-location WAP to a ratio of a RTT between the mobile device and the second fixed-location WAP, determining the ratio of the RTT between the mobile device and the first fixed-location WAP to a ratio of the RTT between the mobile device and the second fixed-location WAP, determining whether the mobile device has crossed the boundary, and triggering an event in response to the mobile device crossing the boundary.
Abstract:
Mobile devices implement a ranging mechanism that includes a lead responder receiving ranging measurement requests from two different initiators in the same DW cycle. At the beginning of the DW cycle the lead responder broadcasts and/or publishes a channel availability map that includes a list of slots and channels in which to respond to the ranging measurement requests based on a number of ranging operations supported in each slot within the DW cycle and based on an autonomously determined response sequence. If the lead responder responds to all ranging requests by all initiators in a DW cycle, secondary responders can perform ranging in the same or subsequent DW cycles. Upon exhausting all initiators paired with the lead responder, a secondary responder becomes the “active” responder that is chosen based on a prioritization scheme that is universal among the group of devices in the ranging operation.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are presented for updating assistance data in an indoor navigation system. In some embodiments, a method includes receiving ranging measurements from a reference positioning terminal, computing an estimated location of the reference positioning terminal based on the received ranging measurements, receiving information associated with a high-confidence location of the reference positioning terminal, determining that a difference between the estimated location and the high-confidence location of the reference positioning terminal is greater than a predetermined threshold, and sending an assistance data update to a server associated with the indoor navigation system, the assistance data update including an update to assistance data based on the received ranging measurements of the reference positioning terminal.
