The DMA controller may be configured to pull timestamp-pointer pairs from packet descriptors stored in an unsorted descriptor ring memory, store the timestamp-pointer pairs in the FIFO memories, trigger the TS sorting logic component to reorder the timestamp-pointer pairs in the FIFO memories so that they are sorted in ascending order, use the sorted timestamp-pointer pairs in the FIFO memories to read the packet descriptors stored in an unsorted descriptor ring memory, and store the packet descriptors in a sorted descriptor ring memory.

The apparatus transmits, by a user equipment (UE), a packet to a network entity, while the UE is in a radio resource control (RRC) connected mode. The apparatus determines an acknowledgment (ACK) is absent for the transmitted packet. The apparatus determines to retransmit the packet based at least on whether the UE is in the RRC connected mode or on a type of the packet, upon determining the ACK is absent. The apparatus may determine to retransmit the packet by retransmitting the packet upon determining the UE is in the RRC connected mode. The apparatus may determine to retransmit the packet by suppressing retransmission of the packet upon determining that the UE is not in the RRC connected mode.

The present disclosure presents a method and an apparatus for packet filtering to save power at a user equipment (UE). For example, the disclosure presents a method for receiving a packet filtering configuration message, at a modem processor (MP) of the UE, from an application processor (AP) in communication with the MP, wherein the packet filtering configuration message includes one or more packet filtering rules for filtering packets associated with one or more applications, configuring a packet filter at the MP based at least on the one or more packet filtering rules received in the packet filtering configuration message, and enabling the configured packet filter at the MP in response to receiving an indication from the AP that the AP entered a low power or sleep mode, wherein the enabled packet filter allows or drops a packet based on the packet filtering rules. As such, packet filtering to save power at UE may be achieved.
