Abstract: The junction temperature of a field effect transistor is detected with a higher degree of accuracy than in the past. A semiconductor device controls multiple field effect transistors that configure a power conversion device, and includes a differential amplifier and a controller that controls ON/OFF of the multiple field effect transistors. The differential amplifier detects the potential difference between a source and a drain of a field effect transistor that is controlled in the OFF state by the controller and that induces an electric current flowing through the body diode thereof, among the multiple field effect transistors.

Abstract: To surely detect a back electromotive force generated in a non-conduction phase at an extremely low duty ratio, a motor driving system includes a three-phase motor, an inverter circuit, and a semiconductor device. A controller included in the semiconductor device compares a voltage at an output node corresponding to a non-conduction phase of the inverter circuit and a reference voltage with each other, thereby estimating a position of a rotor of the three-phase motor and generating a pulse width modulation signal based on the estimated position of the rotor. The controller detects the voltage at the output node of the non-conduction phase in a regeneration period of the pulse width modulation signal when a duty ratio of the pulse width modulation signal is less than a threshold value, the regeneration period being a period in which current is made to flow to the three-phase motor on a regeneration path.

Abstract: The magnetic pole position of the rotor is estimated with high accuracy at the initial start of a three-phase motor of the sensorless system. Semiconductor device for driving and controlling the three-phase motor of the sensorless system have a detector connected to the three-phase output nodes of the inverter circuit and the virtual neutral point (or neutral point), and detecting a voltage generated in the output node of the non-energized phase of the three-phase. Controller applies the initial drive voltage by the inverter circuit to any two phases of the three-phase motor based on the estimated position of the magnetic pole of the rotor in the stop state. Controller estimates the position of the rotor based on a difference voltage detected by the detector in a driving voltage applying period and a regeneration period immediately after or immediately before the driving voltage applying period.

Abstract: The present disclosure starts up a three-phase motor in a stable manner. During a start-up operation of a brushless DC motor, a motor drive system detects the position of a particularly suitable rotor while the rotor is resting, and applies a drive current to two phases in accordance with the detected position of the rotor. A controller changes the time of drive current application in accordance with the magnitude of back electromotive force that is in a non-conducting phase and detected by a detector during drive current application.
