摘要: Loaded latex dispersions of hydrophobic photographically useful compounds with a wide variety of polymer latices are prepared by preparing an oil phase solution of the hydrophobic compound or compounds, preferably essentially free of water-miscible or volatile solvent, combining the oil solution with one or more aqueous solutions, at least one of which contains a polymer latex, and mixing the combination of oil solution, aqueous solution and latex under high shear or turbulence sufficient to cause loading of the photographically useful compound into the dispersed polymer latex wherein the pH of the mixture does not need to be significantly changed.

摘要: An imaging element is described comprising one or more hydrophilic colloid layers which include gelatin as a film forming binder which has been chemically crosslinked with a gelatin hardener, wherein at least 20% of the gelatin of at least one of the one or more hydrophilic colloid layers comprises a gelatin prepared from hydrolysis of ossein using sodium or potassium hydroxide, and the gelatin is chemical crosslinked with a gelatin hardener at a level from 70 to 120 effective &mgr;mole hardener per gram of gelatin. Improvements are obtained in the wet mechanical strength of an imaging element comprising gelatin as a binder, without needing to increase the amount of chemical crosslinker with respect to the gelatin. The invention further enables the use of relatively low molecular weight gelatins without compromising the wet mechanical strength of imaging elements and without needing to increase the amount of crosslinker relative to the amount of gelatin. The invention also enables the selective improvement in the wet mechanical properties of layers with a high ratio of non-binder materials to binder without substantially increasing the amount of chemical crosslinker.

摘要: A polymeric material is provided comprising a blocked photographically useful group (PUG). The incorporated blocked photographically useful group includes a PUG and a blocking group that is capable of releasing the PUG upon processing the photographic element, wherein the blocking group(a) is capable of reacting with a dinucleophile reagent, and(b) comprises two electrophilic groups that are separated from each other by a substituted atom that enables a nucleophilic displacement reaction to occur with release of PUG upon processing the photographic element in the presence of a dinucleophile reagent, wherein the group that is less electrophilic is bonded directly or through at least one releasable timing group to the PUG.Photographic elements and emulsions including the inventive polymers, and processes for developing an image in the elements, are also provided.
