摘要:
A method of forming an aqueous emulsion laminating adhesive having an extended pot life is disclosed in which monoethylenically unsaturated monomers are polymerized to form a copolymer having a glass transition temperature in the range of about -10.degree. C. to about -50.degree. C. The polymerization is carried out in aqueous emulsion in the presence of emulsified epoxy resin in an amount of from about 2% to about 60%, based on the weight of the monomers which are copolymerized. An aqueous emulsion of amine-functional resin is then mixed into aqueous emulsion containing copolymer and epoxy resin formed by the aqueous emulsion copolymerization to provide a weight ratio of amino hydrogen atoms to oxirane groups of from about 0.1 to about 1.0.

Electrically conductive paper is coated with an insulating coating to provide improved electrographic properties using a solvent-soluble copolymer comprising from 5% to 40% of copolymerized acrylamide or a monoethylenic derivative thereof. The coating is preferably pigmented with calcium carbonate, and the presence of the copolymerized acrylamide allows an increase in the pigment to binder ratio into the range of from 2:1 to 6:1.

A method of removing layers of heat cured paint buildup on supporting hangers is disclosed. The method includes coating support hangers with a layer of a thermally expandable material in a water soluble carrier and thereafter applying a water insoluble coating layer. The thermally expandable material, the carrier and the water insoluble coating are all selected so as to be relatively unaffected by the curing temperatures of the paint line where the hangers are to be used. When an undesirably thick coating of cured paint has built-up on the hangers, it is removed by heating to a temperature sufficient to expand the thermally expandable material thereby cracking the paint layers. Thereafter, the hangers are soaked in a hot aqueous solution to dissolve the carrier layer and remove the cracked, cured paint layers.

A low temperature curing solution coating composition is disclosed for the protection of solvent-sensitive thermoplastic moldings. In these compositions, a solvent medium consisting essentially of alcoholic solvents has dissolved therein a self-curing solution copolymer of monoethylenically unsaturated monomers containing an ether of an N-methylol functional monomer, especially isobutoxymethyl acrylamide. This solution is catalyzed with from 3% to 12%, based on the weight of the copolymer, of a long chain dialkyl naphthalene disulfonic acid. The catalyzed compositions are stable and cure at 150.degree. F. to 200.degree. F. without damaging the thermoplastic moldings.

Electrically conductive paper is coated with an insulating coating which is an aqueous latex of an aqueous emulsion copolymer of monoethylenically unsaturated monomers comprising from 5% to 40% of copolymerized acrylamide or a monoethylenic derivative thereof, preferably isobutoxymethyl acrylamide. A proportion of monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid is preferably included in the copolymer.
