    摘要: A method for treating the surface of a fluorinated biomedical device is provided comprising the steps of (a) plasma treating the fluorinated biomedical device with a hydrogen-containing atmosphere to reduce the fluorine or C—F bonding content of the fluorinated biomedical device; and (b) subjecting the hydrogen plasma treated surface to a plasma-polymerization reaction in a hydrocarbon-containing atmosphere to form a polymeric carbonaceous layer on the surface of the biomedical device.

    摘要: The present invention relates to polymeric compositions useful in the manufacture of biocompatible medical devices. More particularly, the present invention relates to certain cationic monomers capable of polymerization to form polymeric compositions having desirable physical characteristics useful in the manufacture of ophthalmic devices. Such properties include the ability to extract the polymerized medical devices with water. This avoids the use of organic solvents as is typical in the art. The polymeric compositions comprise polymerized cationic hydrophilic siloxanyl monomers prepared by the process disclosed herein.

    摘要: A lens with a colored portion is composed of a lens-forming polymer having a front lens surface and a back lens surface. A colorant is applied to at least one of these surfaces, and these surfaces may be coated with a coating layer composed of a material different than the lens-forming polymer. In the case of a cosmetic contact lens, the colorant may be applied in an annular ring pattern corresponding to an iris, so that the colorant pattern masks and changes the apparent color of the natural iris when the contact lens is worn.

The second polymer improves initial comfort of the contact lens. During wear of the contact lens, the second polymer is removed from the contact lens, by blinking and/or tear fluids, and mucin complexes with the first polymer on the contact lens surface.
