A method and communication system for routing calls. The system includes at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), at least one wireless base station, a land-line communication unit, and a land-line base unit. A call placed by the land-line communication unit is routed to the wireless base station via the WTRU when a database in the WTRU indicates that it is less costly than routing the call via the land-line base unit. Alternatively, a call placed by the WTRU is routed to the land-line base station when the database indicates that it is less costly than routing the call via the wireless base station. The database stores wireless phone data, land-line data and preferred usage data provided by a user of the WTRU.

A wireless communication system which provides a plurality of wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) users with access to the Internet via a wireless local area network (WLAN), Bluetooth™ or ultra-wideband (UWB) interface. The system includes a short-range access point (AP) in communication with the WTRUs, multiplexer in communication with the Internet and the AP, and a plurality of mobile platforms in communication with the multiplexer and the Internet. The system may further include a mapping unit for correlating routable medium access control (MAC) addresses to specific universal serial bus (USB) interfaces associated with the mobile platforms. The system may be incorporated in a mass-transit vehicle, whereby the WTRU users are passengers in the vehicle.

A method includes determining that a first receiver of a node of a mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) is in an electromagnetic contested environment for a first frequency. The method also includes scanning a frequency coverage range of a second receiver of the node for unused frequencies. The method additionally includes selecting a frequency from the unused frequencies, the selected frequency to be used for communication of messages from another node of the MANET to the node via the second receiver. The method further includes transmitting, to the other node, a message including information of the selected frequency via the transmitter.

A method and apparatus for protecting sensed content and warning a target of sensing is disclosed. A first transceiver, (e.g., a network server), includes a database which defines at least one zone in which sensing a target is not permitted. A second transceiver, (e.g., a cell phone), senses a target to obtain content and temporarily stores the content in a memory, after being encrypted. The cell phone transmits information to the network server which indicates the location of the cell phone. The network server receives the location information from the cell phone and determines whether the target was sensed in a “Do Not Disturb Zone”. If so, the network server instructs the cell phone to delete the encrypted content from the memory. Otherwise, the network server indicates to the cell phone that the temporarily stored content may be decrypted, stored in a permanent memory and used as desired.

In one embodiment, contextual information is used to generate tokens/keys. The tokens/keys may be derived directly from the contextual information. The contextual information may be used in conjunction with other information to derive the tokens/keys. Tokens/keys may be exchanged between transmit/receive units. The exchange of these tokens/keys may be encrypted.

A method and apparatus for securing transmission of content created by a content generation device embedded in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) by determining what type of watermarks should be applied to the content and incorporating the watermarks in the content. The WTRU includes a content generation unit, a watermark incorporation unit, and a communication subsystem. The content generation unit is embedded in the WTRU and generates content, such as audio, video, image, text or a combination thereof. The watermark incorporation unit determines the type of watermarks that should be incorporated in the content and incorporates the watermarks in the content. The communication subsystem transmits the watermarked content.
