    摘要: A shock absorber for a marine propulsion device is configured to provide an adapter, coupler and resilient device which can be assembled into a unit, or module, that can be inserted into a propeller. The resilient device includes two helical springs that urge the coupler into a central position with respect to the adapter and resist relative axial motion between the adapter and coupler. The shock absorber is intended to absorb the forces which occur during a shift from neutral to forward gear of the marine propulsion device.

    摘要: A marine propulsion device is made of first and second portions which are removably attachable to each other. The second portion is the leading edge portion of the nose cone and the drive shaft housing. It can also comprise a portion of the skeg. The second portion is configured to crush more easily in response to an impact force than the first portion. This can be accomplished by making the second portion from a different material than the first portion, which can be aluminum, or by providing one or more crush boxes within the structure of the second portion to cause it to yield more quickly to an impact force and thus protect the first portion which is the more critical structure of the marine device.

    摘要: A marine propulsion system is configured to be preassembled prior to the attachment of a marine engine to the marine vessel. In other words, the marine engine is attached to a transom plate, a gimbal ring, and a bell housing prior to insertion of the engine into the marine vessel. The subassembly is then moved rearwardly to cause the bell housing, gimbal ring, and portion of the transom, bracket to pass through a preformed opening in the transom. Subsequently, a transom ring is attached to the transom bracket to affix the subassembly to the transom. Then a marine drive unit is attached to the bell housing.

    摘要: A two stage damping system is provided for a trim cylinder mount of a marine drive unit. The mounting bushings comprise inner and outer tubes with an elastomeric material disposed between the inner and outer tubes. The elastomeric material is structured to provide a soft rate of stiffness in response to relatively light loads, such as shifting loads, and a harder rate of stiffness in response to higher loads, such as during high thrust loads or wide open throttle operation of a marine vessel. The two rates of stiffness are provided by the appropriate placement of cavities either within the elastomeric material or between the elastomeric material and the inner or outer tubes. Alternatively, two different types of elastomeric material can be used to provide the two rates of stiffness.

    摘要: A cooling system for an out drive of a stern drive device draws water from a body of water in which a marine vessel is operated and conducts the water through a conduit to an outlet end that is configured to direct a stream of water into a space which is defined under a removably attachable cover and above a surface of a heat producing portion of the out drive. The cover contains a turbulently flowing stream of water in the space in order to more efficiently conduct the water in thermal communication with the outer surface of the heat producing portion. Return passages are provided between the cover and the surface of the out drive to allow water to return, under the influence of gravity, back to the body of water from which it was drawn.

    摘要: An actuator for a marine transmission uses four cavities of preselected size in order to provide four potential forces resulting from pressurized hydraulic fluid within those cavities. The effective areas of surfaces acted upon by the hydraulic pressure are selected in order to provide increased force to move the actuator toward a neutral position from either a forward or reverse gear position. Also, the relative magnitudes of these effective areas are also selected to provide a quicker movement into gear than out of gear, given a similar differential magnitude of pressures within the cavities.
