摘要： A client computer is connected via a network to an anti-virus server and polls the server for indication that an anti-virus needs to be immediately downloaded from the anti-virus server. The client computer disengages from the network, and re-establishes a link with only the trusted anti-virus server. The anti-virus fix is installed, the client computer re-booted, and the client computer is then allowed to reconnect to the full network. If the client's primary operating system (OS) is infected, a secondary OS in the client computer performs the anti-virus download and execution. The disengagement from the network is performed by applying a filter in a network interface card (NIC) driver by the primary OS, the secondary OS, a service processor (SP), or by a virtual machine manager (VMM), depending on which is available at the client computer.

摘要： According to one disclosed embodiment, an approach is provided to rotate a workspace displayed on a display screen. The workspace includes visual tiles displayed in a grid layout of columns and rows. A current aspect ratio of the display screen is identified. A current row value and a current column value associated with each of the visual tiles is retrieved. The current aspect ratio is inverted resulting in a new aspect ratio of the display screen. Each of the plurality of visual tiles is rotated ninety degrees. A new row value associated with each of the visual tiles is set to the current column value and a new column value associated with each of the visual tiles is set to the current row value. Each rotated tile is displayed at the new row and column values using the new aspect ratio.

摘要： The provision of an optimized arrangement for reading tasks at a clamshell or laptop computer, particularly to facilitate reading in portrait mode. Further contemplated herein are arrangements for readily switching between a reading (portrait) operating mode and a “normal” (landscape) mode. Such changes could be brought about via essentially any suitable arrangement, such as via an accelerometer which acts automatically, or a hotkey which is activated manually. Additionally contemplated herein is the use of mouse keys for alternative purposes specific to switching between the reading/portrait modes, such as utilizing left and right mouse buttons for page up and page down controls for reading (in portrait mode). A mouse pad (touchpad) can also be employed for alternative purposes in reading/portrait mode, such as the use of horizontal mouse pad scrolling for vertical document scrolling in reading/portrait mode.

摘要： An apparatus for providing management storage via a USB port of a computer system is disclosed. The apparatus includes a flash memory, a first and second switches, a first and second inverters, a designated port, and a controller. Coupled to the flash memory, the first and second switches are controlled by a main power of a computer system in a complementary manner. The first and second inverters, which are powered by a standby power of the computer system, are coupled to a respective control input of the first and second switches. The designated port, which is coupled to the flash memory via the first switch, allows data to be read from and written to the flash memory without booting up the computer system. On the other hand, the controller, which is coupled to the flash memory via the second switch, allows data to be read from and written to the flash memory by the computer system only after the computer system has been booted up.

摘要： A method for displaying various types of messages received from a network to which an information handling system, such as a computer, is connected. A selection is made from a list of application programs installed on the system as to whether or not messages are displayed when selected ones of the application programs are running on the system. A message display system can be operated by preventing display of messages when the display of the system is in a particular mode, such as one of full screen mode or presentation mode. A selection may be made as to which types of messages are to be displayed. Only those types of messages that are selected are displayed on a display of the system. A medium can have code thereon for causing a system to implement the method. An information handling system, such as a computer, can have a processor and memory for storing instructions to implement the method.
