摘要:
Disclosed is a process for the preparation of 4,4'-stilbenedicarboxylate esters by a 4-step process starting with an alkyl p-formylbenzoate and utilizing intermediate phosphite and phosphonate compounds. The steps comprise(1) preparing an alkyl p-(hydroxymethyl)benzoate by hydrogenating an alkyl p-formylbenzoate;(2) contacting the alkyl p-(hydroxymethyl)benzoate of step (1) with a trialkyl phosphite to obtain a phosphite ester compound having the formula: ##STR1## (3) contacting the phosphite ester of step (2) with a catalytic amount of iodine to rearrange the phosphite ester to the corresponding phosphonate ester;and(4) contacting the phosphonate ester compound of step (3) with an alkyl p-formylbenzoate in the presence of an alkali metal alkoxide and an inert solvent to obtain the dialkyl 4,4'-stilbenedicarboxylate.

This invention relates to novel azo dyes containing a 4-nitropyrazole azo moiety which may be substituted, for example, with an alkyl group which itself may be substituted, and an aniline coupler which may be substituted. The dyes produce bright red shades on hydrophobic textile fiber including polyesters, polyamides, and cellulose esters and show unexpected improvements in one or more of such properties as fastness to light, wash, ozone, gas such as oxides of nitrogen, perspiration, crock and sublimation, dyeability at desirable low energy levels to deep shades, build, pH stability, bloom resistance, leveling, migration, dye bath exhaustion, dye transfer, and the like.

This invention relates to azo dyes in which the diazotized amino component bears a sulfonic acid or salt group on its ring. These dyes have excellent dyeing properties on polyamide fibers, particularly nylon carpets and also impart color to cellulose acetate fibers and wool. The dyes correspond to the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is selected from hydrogen and alkyl; M is H.sup.+, Na.sup.+, K.sup.+, Li.sup.+ or NH.sub.4.sup.+ ; and the coupler C is selected from a variety of couplers including anilines, tetrahydroquinolines, phenols , and the like which may be substituted with known substituents such as halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, acylamido, sulfamoyl, carbamoyl and the like.
