A method and apparatus for maintaining communications between a mobile computer and a mobile subscriber unit is disclosed. The method and apparatus comprise determining whether a connection is available between the mobile subscriber unit and a radio communications system. If a connection is available, then the method and apparatus include retrieving a first IP address for the mobile computer from the radio communications system. Then, the method and apparatus comprise caching the first IP address in the mobile subscriber unit for use by the mobile computer. Finally, the method and apparatus include utilizing the first IP address even if the radio communications system is unavailable and updating the first IP address with a second IP address obtained from the radio communications system when the radio communications system is available.

At the wireless device wherein the wireless device has access to a velocity sensitive network, the wireless device verifies whether the velocity sensitive network is available to the wireless device. Then, the wireless device determines a velocity of the wireless device and determines that the velocity sensitive network may be appropriate for wireless communication when the velocity of the wireless device is less than a threshold for a specified duration.

The list generation begins when a sensor alarm report is received from a sensor data controller, processing the sensor alarm report and accessing at least one data source of the plurality of data sources, dependent upon the sensor alarm report, to obtain accessed data. The contact list, which is dependent upon the accessed data, is output to a media share controller to control media signals, such as text, graphics, audio and/or video signals, between members of the media share group.

Systems and methods for implementing dispatch calls using IP multicasting protocols are disclosed. The methods include utilizing a payload multicast group address for distributing payload, and utilizing a control multicast group address for distributing control messages to members of the talkgroup in a single-zone (FIG. 1). A zone controller 116 dynamically identifies payload and control multicast group addresses and sends them to participating sites 102, 104. The participating sites 102, 104 issue Join commands to associated network devices 108, 110 to receive payload and control messages addressed to the respective payload and control multicast group addresses. There is further disclosed a system and method for implementing dispatch calls for members in multiple zones (FIG. 6). Zone controllers 630, 632 separately identify control multicast group addresses and send them to affiliating devices in their respective zones. A controlling zone controller 630 dynamically identifies a payload multicast group address that is used by participating devices in both zones. The participating sites 606, 616 issue Join commands to associated network devices 610, 622 to receive payload messages addressed to the payload multicast group address and control messages addressed to their control multicast group address.

A method for providing a mobile device in a packet data network access to a channelized network is disclosed. At a gateway between the two networks, a first channelized network message that is encapsulated in a first IP data packet from the packet data network is received. The first channelized network message is retrieved and reformatted for sending over the channelized network. The gateway then receives a second channelized network message from the channelized network. An identifier of a mobile device associated with the second channelized network message is retrieved and an IP address for the identified mobile device is determined. Then, the gateway encapsulates the second channelized network message into a second IP data packet and sends the encapsulated second channelized network message to the identified mobile device in the packet data network.

A new method of use for compressing technology which allows for a continuous stream of data to be transmitted over pre-existing transmittal lines is described. The highly advanced data compression technology (1) allows large amounts of data, such as video data, to be compressed into small sizes. The compressed data is then sent over transmittal lines (2) and then is decompressed. The decompressed data (3) is then transmitted over a standard television (4) to allow anyone to view movies, access the Internet or utilize any other feature of the transmitted data without the use of a computer.
