    摘要: A method and apparatus for automating the design of morphological or template-based filters for print quality enhancement. A plurality of different phase, but same resolution, subsampled images are generated from training documents. Statistical data derived therefrom is then employed in an automated process to generate filters. The filters may be used for resolution enhancement and/or conversion of bitmap images. Furthermore, the statistical data is used to produce filters that are intended to not only optimize image structure, but image density as well.

    摘要: The present invention is a method and apparatus for mapping digital image data using paired erosion-based filters. One filter of the pair creates a superset of the output image data and the other a subset of the output image data, and combinatorial logic is then applied to the superset and subset data to obtain the mapped image data. In one embodiment a plurality of erosion-based filters are used where one filter of the pair is extensive and the other filter is antiextensive, each pair generating a sample phase of a high resolution output image.

    摘要: A method and apparatus which eliminates beat like artifacts that occur when an RF signal is mixed with a pulsed signal of similar, but not identical, frequency to the RF signal. A controller for synchronizing the phase of a RF carrier signal to a video signal provides beat elimination in a high pixel rate laser printer. The video signal and RF carrier signal are multiplied and sent to an acousto-optic modulator for pulsing a uniform burst of energy in the form of a laser beam to a photoconductor. The controller may include a synchronous gateable crystal oscillator with logic such as TTL, CMOS, ECL or equivalent logic functions using discrete transistors, where the synchronous gateable crystal oscillator is frequency dependent upon a laser printing speed. Eliminating imaging defects such as variable pixel width and density provides a sharper, uniform pixel printout.

    摘要: The present invention is a an apparatus for enhancing the output along edges of discharged area developed regions in a tri-level imaging system employing a pulse width and position modulated signal ROS for exposure. The invention enables the identification and selective alteration of video data used to drive the ROS so as to extend the developed regions by a selected amount and eliminate digitization artifacts present in the image to be printed. The extension of the discharged area developed regions is accomplished by extending the width of, or adding separate, exposure pulses in adjacent areas to enable development within a portion of those regions.

    摘要: The present invention is a method and apparatus for converting the resolution of bitmap images, and more specifically, to the use of a template matching process to alter the resolution of digital images for printing or similar methods of rendition. The present invention uses statistically generated templates, implemented using look-up tables, to improve document appearance upon output by converting from an original or input spatial resolution to an output spatial resolution that is device dependent, and where there is a non-integer relationship between the input and output resolutions. The resulting image signals may then be utilized to control a scanning beam where the beam varies in intensity and duration according to the pulses used to control it.

    摘要: Systems and methods for template matching of multicolored images provide an image conversion process that respectively views two, three or four input color planes through an input observation window. Single plane vectors are obtained that represent the color planes. The obtained single plane vectors are combined into a multi-plane vector that may be used in a look-up table for descreening or resolution enhancement, for example. Various interactions between color planes may be taken into account to provide optimum color space conversion. Additional information obtained by using the multi-plane vector allow performance of image processes with optimized accurate color values.

    摘要: The present invention is a method and apparatus for improving the appearance of printed documents, and more specifically, to the use of a template matching process to enhance the fast-scan resolution of digital images while maintaining raster resolution for printing. The present invention uses multiple-bit per pixel, statistically generated templates, implemented using look-up tables, to improve document appearance by converting from a single-bit per pixel to N-bits per pixel, while preserving raster resolution of the printed output. The resulting N-bit per pixel image signals may be utilized to control a scanning beam where the beam varies in intensity and duration according to the pulses used to control it.

    摘要: The present invention is a an apparatus for enhancing the output along edges of charged area developed regions in a tri-level imaging system employing a pulse width and position modulated signal ROS for exposure.
