Illustrated herein is a process for producing a stress relief electrostatographic imaging member web stock comprising: providing a multilayered imaging member web stock including at least one layer to be treated, the at least one layer to be treated having a coefficient of thermal expansion significantly differing from a coefficient of thermal expansion of another layer; passing the multilayered web stock over and making contact with a circular treatment tube having an outer concave arcuate circumferential surface that spontaneously creates a transverse web stock stretching force to offset the ripple causing transversal compression force in the at least one layer to be treated; heating at least one layer to be treated above the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the at least one layer to be treated to thereby create a heated portion of the at least one layer to be treated, a portion of the web stock in proximity to the heated portion of the at least one layer to be treated thereby becoming a heated portion of the web stock; inducing curvature conformance in the heated portion of the web stock; and, cooling the heated portion of the web stock at said curvature to a temperature below the Tg of the layer. Also included is the stress relieved imaging member web stock produced by this process.

An imaging member having a charge transport layer is provided. The charge transport layer includes a plurality of charge transport layers coated from solutions of similar or different compositions or concentrations, wherein the upper or additional transport layer(s) comprise a lower concentration of charge transport compound than the first (bottom) charge transport layer. The charge transport compound included in the first (bottom) charge transport layer may either be the same or different from that included in the additional charge transport layers. The charge transport compound in one or more of the layers is dissolved or molecularly dispersed in an electrically inactive polymer material to form a solid solution. In such a construction, the resulting charge transport layer exhibits enhanced cracking suppression, improves wear resistance, provides excellent imaging member electrical performance, and delivers improved print quality.

Disclosed herein is a flexible imaging member having a high concentration of a charge transport compound having optimum enhanced mechanical and electrical characteristics. By increasing the concentration of the charge transport compound to a level of from about 55 weight percent or more, including from about 55 weight percent to about 70 weight percent, and from about 55 weight percent to about 65 weight percent, a flexible imaging member can be produced with reduced residual voltage and/or improved sensitivity. Furthermore, the fatigue cracking resistance of the charge transport layer can be improved through the implementation of a heat stress release process described more particularly herein.
