Abstract: A test element for electrochemically detecting at least one analyte in a bodily fluid is disclosed. The test element comprises at least one first electrode and at least one second electrode. The first electrode is designed as a working electrode and the second electrode is designed as a counter electrode. The test element comprises at least one capillary capable of receiving a sample of the body fluid. The first electrode and the second electrode are arranged on opposing sides of the capillary. The first electrode and the second electrode are arranged such that during a capillary filling the first electrode and the second electrode are wetted simultaneously and at an equal rate.

Abstract: A method and test element for electrochemically detecting at least one analyte in a sample are provided, wherein the method comprises: a) providing at least one test element comprising at least one first electrode contacting a test chemistry and at least one second electrode, wherein a surface of the second electrode consists of silver metal; b) contacting both the first and second electrodes with the sample comprising chloride ions; c) applying a first voltage between the first electrode as a cathode and the second electrode as an anode with a voltage sufficient for forming a layer of silver chloride at the surface of the second electrode; d) applying a second voltage between the first electrode as the anode and the second electrode as the cathode; and e) determining an electrical signal between the first and the second electrodes, whereby the analyte in the sample comprising the chloride ions is detected.

Abstract: A method for detecting at least one analyte in a body fluid is disclosed comprising performing an optical measurement, wherein at least one test chemical is contacts the body fluid. The test chemical is an optical test chemical adapted to perform at least one detection reaction, wherein at least one optically detectable property is changed due to the detection reaction to provide at least one optical measurement value. At least one impedance measurement is generated wherein at least one alternating electrical signal is applied to the body fluid via the impedance measurement electrodes and at least one answer signal is recorded, and at least one impedance measurement value is generated. At least one evaluation step is performed wherein at least one evaluation algorithm is used, and the optical measurement value and the impedance measurement value are used for determining a concentration of the analyte in the body fluid.
