The present invention includes a fixed optical system having a built-in light source, and a movable optical system having an objective lens. A parallel light beam that enters the movable optical system from the fixed optical system enters the movable optical system via a light path that is parallel to the direction in which the objective lens is movable and from the side on which a spindle motor is provided.

    摘要: An optical pickup device that is able to record/reproduce information signals for first and second optical discs with different recording capacities. The optical pickup device includes an objective lens for converging first and second light beams of different wavelengths on the signal recording layers of first and second optical discs having different substrate thicknesses, a beam splitter having the same transmittance to the first and second light beams and configured for separating the first and second light beams radiated by first and second light sources to fall on the beam splitter via a first objective lens or a second objective lens, and a hologram element arranged between the objective lens and the beam splitter for limiting the aperture of one of the first light beam and the second light beam and for correcting the spherical aberration caused by difference in the disc substrate thickness of the first and second optical discs. This configuration enables various optical elements, such as objective lens or beam splitter, to be used in common for the optical disc of different recording capacities.

    摘要: A recording and/or reproducing apparatus for a disc-shaped optical recording medium includes a rotation drive mechanism, a head device, a discriminating device, a first processing device, a second processing device, a third processing device and a controller. A disc-shaped optical recording medium is loaded on the rotation drive mechanism and is run in rotation at a constant linear velocity. The head device includes a laser light source and a photodetector unit and is movable in the radial direction of the disc-shaped optical recording medium for recording/reproducing information signal on or from the disc-shaped optical recording medium. The discriminating device discriminates the type of the disc-shaped optical recording medium loaded on the rotation driving device. The photodetector unit includes first, second and third photodetectors. The first processing circuit takes a difference between output signals from the first photodetector and those from the second photodetector. The second processing circuit takes a sum of output signals from the first photodetector and those from the second photodetector. The third photodetector generates an error signal based on an output signal from the third photodetector. The controller selectively changes over an output from the first processing circuit to an output from the second processing circuit and vice versa based on a detection output from the discriminating device to produce reproducing signals.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a recording apparatus, a recording method, a program, and a recording medium whereby data is reproduced from a two-layer optical disk that has yet to be formatted completely. A control section 51 divides a recording area of a layer L0 of the optical disk 33 into a plurality of recording regions and a recording area of a layer L1 of the same disk 33 into a plurality of recording regions at substantially the same physical positions as the recording regions of the layer L0. A control section 51 records the region where user-designated data was last written. The control section 51 controls a signal processing section 56 to write dummy data to the recording area of the layer L0 or L1 different from the layer that includes the region to which the user-designated data was last written. The signal processing section 56 is then controlled to write dummy data to the recording area of the layer containing the region where the user-designated data was last written, thus formatting the optical disk 33. This invention can be applied advantageously to the recording apparatus for recording data to optical disks.
