Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an image processing apparatus and an image processing method that enable high-precision generation of parallax images of viewpoints with a small amount of calculation.A correlation generating unit calculates correlation values of captured images of pairs of viewpoints, using captured images of viewpoints. A generating unit generates parallax images of different hierarchical levels of a reference viewpoint based on the correlation values. The parallax images are a parallax image formed with the disparity value of the reference viewpoint, and a parallax image formed with the disparity value of an occlusion region. The reference viewpoint is one of the viewpoints. The present disclosure can be applied to the image processing apparatus of a light field camera, for example.

A communication section receives, when an interchangeable lens including monocular lenses that are plural lenses arranged so as not to overlap with each other in an optical axis direction is mounted on a camera main body that includes an image sensor, known reference positions that are positions on a captured image on which a predetermined imaging target imaged by the image sensor appears, the positions corresponding to predetermined rays of light on monocular images corresponding to figures formed from rays of light focused by the monocular lenses. A reference position calculation section determines unknown reference positions on the basis of the known reference positions. The present technology can be applied to a camera system for capturing an image.

Abstract: A depth map generation unit 22 generates a depth map that generates the depth map from images obtained by picking up a subject at a plurality of viewpoint positions by an image pickup unit 21. On the basis of the depth map generated by the depth map generation unit 22, an alignment unit 23 aligns polarized images obtained by the image pickup unit 21 picking up the subject at the plurality of viewpoint positions through polarizing filters in different polarization directions at the different viewpoint positions. A polarization characteristic acquisition unit 24 acquires a polarization characteristic of the subject from a desired viewpoint position by using the polarized images aligned by the alignment unit 23 to obtain the high-precision polarization characteristic with little degradation in temporal resolution and spatial resolution. It becomes possible to acquire the polarization characteristic of the subject at the desired viewpoint position.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an image processing device and method, which are capable of reproducing optical information processing of a lens. A viewpoint PSF calculating unit converts each disparity map into a map of a depth z. Then, the viewpoint PSF calculating unit obtains a viewpoint position on the basis of each viewpoint image, a map of each depth z, and a focus position, and generates PSF data of each viewpoint on the basis of the viewpoint position. Here, the PSF data is a point spread function, and an offset amount and an intensity coefficient of each viewpoint can be obtained on the basis of the PSF data of each viewpoint. The viewpoint PSF calculating unit supplies the obtained PSF data of each viewpoint (that is, the offset amount and the intensity coefficient) to a light collection processing unit. The present disclosure can be applied to an imaging device that performs multi-viewpoint photographing using an array of a plurality of cameras in a light field photographing technique capable of tracing a light ray.

A removal section generates after-removal photographic images at a plurality of viewpoints by removing part of subjects from respective photographic images at the plurality of viewpoints using disparity information associated with the photographic images at the plurality of viewpoints. An image generation section generates an obstacle-removed image at a predetermined viewpoint by registering the after-removal photographic images at the plurality of viewpoints using the disparity information. The present technique is applicable to a case, for example, of generating an obstacle-removed image in which an obstacle does not appear using photographic images at a plurality of viewpoints.
