The present technology relates to a reproduction device, a reproduction method, and a recording medium configured to display content having a large brightness dynamic range with appropriate brightness.A reproduction device according to an aspect of the present technology reads second coded data from a recording medium recording the second coded data between first coded data of a standard video which is a video in a first brightness range and the second coded data of an extended video which is a video in a second brightness range, performs communication with a display device capable of displaying the extended video, thereby acquires identification information of the display device, acquires brightness adjustment data according to a specification of the display device used to adjust brightness of the extended video based on the identification information of the display device, adjusts the brightness of the extended video obtained by decoding the second coded data based on the brightness adjustment data, and outputs data together with brightness characteristic information representing a characteristic of the brightness of the extended video to the display device. The present technology can be applied to a player reproducing content.

A recording medium, on which the reproduction device of one aspect of the present technology performs reproduction, records coded data of an extended video that is a video having a second brightness range that is wider than a first brightness range, brightness characteristic information that represents a brightness characteristic of the extended video, and brightness conversion definition information used when performing a brightness conversion of the extended video to a standard video that is a video having the first brightness range. The reproduction device decodes the coded data and converts the extended video obtained by decoding the coded data to the standard video on the basis of the brightness conversion definition information.

There is provided an information processing apparatus, an information processing method, an image processing apparatus, an image processing method, and a program that make it possible to perform luminance adjustment on a higher luminance side and a lower luminance side appropriately. The information processing apparatus of one aspect of the present technology adds, to each of pictures for which luminance adjustment is to be performed by a display apparatus, metadata representative of a feature of a luminance and including information representative of a first knee point and information representative of a second knee point on a lower luminance side than the first knee point, and outputs each of the pictures to which the metadata is added to the display apparatus. The present technology can be applied to a game machine ready for outputting of HDR video.

A decoding method decodes a bit stream in an image decoding apparatus. The method includes receiving a weight parameter that is added to a luma quantization parameter as the bit stream. The method also includes decoding, in a decoding unit in the image decoding apparatus, the bit stream, and generating a luma component of quantized coefficients and a chroma component of quantized coefficients. Further, the method includes performing, in a dequantization unit in the image decoding apparatus, dequantization on the luma component of quantized coefficients using the luma quantization parameter and the chroma component of quantized coefficients using a chroma quantization parameter calculated on the basis of the luma quantization parameter weighted by an add operation of the weight parameter. In addition, the method includes performing, in a transform unit in the image decoding apparatus, an inverse orthogonal transform.
