Abstract: Provided is a medical observation system including a medical observation device and an image processing device. The medical observation device includes a plurality of imaging elements and a branching optical system configured to split incident light into a plurality of rays of light, and each of the plurality of rays of light split by the branching optical system is guided to at least one of the plurality of imaging elements. Of the plurality of imaging elements, two or more imaging elements each capture images having mutually different brightness, and two or more imaging elements are arranged so as to have mutually different optical distances from the branching optical system. The image processing device generates at least one of a first composite image based on a plurality of images having mutually different brightness, the first composite image having a wider dynamic range than each of the plurality of images, or a second composite image based on a plurality of images captured by each of the two or more imaging elements having different optical distances from the branching optical system, the second composite image having a deeper depth of field than each of the plurality of images.

Abstract: The present technology relates to an endoscope system in which resolution and an S/N ratio are adjusted to be well-balanced depending on an imaging condition, and further capable of changing a processing load depending on the imaging condition, a method for operating the endoscope system, and a program.From an image signal in a body cavity imaged by an endoscope apparatus, a low frequency image including a low frequency component and a high frequency image including a high frequency component are extracted. The low frequency image is reduced by a predetermined reduction ratio, and, after image quality improvement processing is performed, is enlarged by an enlargement ratio corresponding to the reduction ratio. At that time, based on condition information indicating an imaging state, when brightness at the time of imaging is sufficient and the high frequency component does not include noise components a lot, the low frequency image and the high frequency image are added to be output as an output image. In addition, based on the condition information, when the brightness at the time of imaging is not sufficient and the high frequency component includes the noise components a lot, only the low frequency image is output as the output image. The present technology can be applied to the endoscope system.

Abstract: The present technology relates to an image processing apparatus and method and an endoscopic system that permit reduction of uneven illumination distribution. An image processing apparatus includes a signal processing section that corrects uneven illumination of an image shot with a subject within a body of a patient to be operated on illuminated by a light source. The light source is arranged within the patient's body. The signal processing section corrects uneven illumination on the basis of a normally illuminated image and a low illuminated image. The normally illuminated image is shot with the subject within the body illuminated at a given illumination intensity. The low illuminated image is shot with the subject illuminated at a lower illumination intensity than the given illumination intensity.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a surgical system, a surgical control method, and a program enabling image processing with high accuracy in a case of changing an amount of light applied to a subject of a surgical imaging device. A light source control unit changes the light amount of the light applied to the subject imaged by an endoscope from a default value to a high light amount larger than the default value. An image processing unit performs image processing using a high light amount image which is an intraoperative image captured by the endoscope in a state in which the light amount is the high light amount. The image processing unit adjusts brightness of the high light amount image on the basis of the high light amount to generate a display image and displays the display image on a display device. The present disclosure is applicable to, for example, an endoscopic surgical system and the like.
