    Abstract: There is provided a process for the production of ketones and a catalyst for increasing the proportion of ketone produced by the process, wherein an olefine, molecular oxygen and steam are passed over a catalyst containing discrete particles of tin oxide, a majority of such particles being of a size of at most 50 A, homogeneously distributed over a particulate supporting material, the tin oxide particles being covered by a substantially monomolecular layer of molybdenum oxide.

AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF A FERROUS SALT CONTAINING ALSO ONE OR MORE SALTS OF OTHER METALS, BUT NO OXIDIZING AGENTS, IS INTENSIVELY STIRRED, WHEREBY A PRECIPITATE IS GRADUALLY FORMNED AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURE BY HYDROLIZING UREA, LKIEWISE PRESENT IN THE SOLUTION, TO AMMONIUM CARBAMATE, OR AMMONIUM CARBONATE, AND THE PRECIPITATE SO FORMED IS SUBSEQUENTLY SEPARATED FROM THE LIQUID, WASHED, DRIED AND IF NECESSARY, HEAT-TREATED IN CONTACT WITH AIR. PREFERABLY THE PRECIPITATION IS CARRIED OUT IN AN INERT ATMOSPHERE.     Abstract: Porous catalyst bodies are produced from a thermally stable inorganic carrier material by introducing a suspension of the said carrier material into a liquid immiscible with the suspension medium and heated above the boiling point of the said medium. After evaporation of the suspension medium to an essential extent, the porous catalyst bodies formed are separated from the liquid and subsequently heated to an elevated temperature to improve the strength caracteristics thereof.
