    摘要: A novel method of manufacturing a longitudinal granular oxide recording medium is disclosed. The method preferably entails obtaining a non-magnetic substrate, heating the substrate at a temperature T1 that is greater than 150° C., forming a first layer with body-centered cubic atomic structure and with a preferred growth orientation, cooling the substrate to a temperature T2 and forming a second layer comprising a magnetic oxide-containing granular magnetic layer with a hexagonal close packed atomic structure and with a preferred growth orientation. The magnetic oxide-containing granular magnetic layer contains magnetic crystal grains that are substantially isolated by an inter-granular region comprising a non-magnetic substance, wherein the non-magnetic substance is preferably an oxide-containing material.

    摘要: A magnetic recording medium deposited on glass and having an orientation ratio greater than one is disclosed. The magnetic recording medium includes a CoW seedlayer deposited on a circumferentially textured glass substrate. The magnetic recording medium with such a seedlayer can have an OR that is similar or higher than that with a NiP seedlayer. Magnetic recording medium with a CoW seedlayer can produce oriented glass media with orientation ratio OR>1 when sputtered on substrates which have been circumferentially textured before the deposition of the CoW seedlayer. The W content of the CoW seedlayer can range between 30-50 at %. The thickness of the CoW seedlayer can range between 10 Å and 200 Å. The method for sputter depositing the magnetic recording medium is also disclosed and includes sputter depositing the CoW seedlayer using pure Ar as sputtering gas or using a mixture of Ar and O2, H2O and N2 as sputtering gas.

    摘要: A magnetic media structure 200 deposited on glass substrates without a NiP layer having oriented media (ORMRT>1), high coercivity and high SMNR is presented. This media will significantly reduce the cost of making high quality media on glass substrates by eliminating the cost associated with additional steps of depositing a NiP layer and texturing that layer. First glass substrates are mechanically textured to have a surface roughness of about 1 Å to about 12 Å. The first layer of the magnetic structure contains Cr and Ti with a Ti content of 27 to 63 atomic percentage. The second layer contains Co and Ti with a Ti content of 43 to 55 atomic percentage. The third layer is a Cr-alloy layer wherein the alloy is an element chosen from W, Mo, V, Si, Ti, Mn, Ru, B, Nb, Ta, Zr, and Pt. The fourth layer is Co58Cr37Pt5 and the fifth layer is Co61Cr15Pt12B12. Finally, the protective overcoat is typically a hard material that contains hydrogenated carbon.
