    摘要: A vehicle mounted communication system comprises a hand held mobile phone and a hands-free unit. The hand-held unit includes a wide area transceiver for station outside of the vehicle and a short-range radio transceiver the hands-free unit includes a microphone and speaker and is mounted in a fixed location in the vehicle. A short range radio link operatively connects the hand-held unit and the hands-free unit to enable voice and data signals to be exchanged between the hand-held unit and the hands-free unit. The hands-free unit may include a programmable memory unit to store a user table containing user identification data and configuration data. The hands-free unit control logic configures the hands-free unit based on the user identification received from the hand-held unit, thus allowing multiple users to have their preferences recognized by an individual hands-free unit. The programmable memory unit and control logic may be incorporated into the vehicle's internal network for control of things like electric seats, stereo controls and the like.

    摘要: A communication system provides efficient satellite communication in rural, remote, or sparsely populated areas, or in areas lacking a conventional telephone infrastructure, or in special purpose uses such as airport coverage. Subscribers in such areas communicate with the satellite via a simple, highly modular entry node located in a local area to be served. Subscriber units provide subscribers with access to the system. The subscriber units are connected to the entry node via local access loops provided by point-to-point wireless links between the subscriber units and the entry node. The entry node internally switches local traffic among subscribers and connects traffic to outside circuits, via wireless links with the satellite, as appropriate. The outside circuits are provided by the cooperative working of the satellite, an entry-node controller, and an earth station. The wireless links between the satellite and the entry node and the local access loops may operate at the same or different frequencies. If they operate at different frequencies, a frequency translator in the entry node controller matches the different frequencies. A subscriber unit may be used to provide the subscribers with access to the system such that speech compression and decompression takes place in the subscriber unit itself to avoid the effects of tandem coder/decoders.

According to a first mode, the headset may be mounted on a radiotelephone body where it serves as a speaker and microphone for the radiotelephone. Also, the headset can be separated from the body of the portable radiotelephone and placed on the head of the user. In this mode of operation, the headset receives and transmits signals from and to the radiotelephone body during a call, thus providing hands-free operation. The headset can be attached to a user's head by an ear clip. The headset and body may include low power RF transceivers. The headset may contain power saving circuitry to minimize power drain from an internal battery. The battery may be recharged whenever the headset is fixed to the radiotelephone.
