摘要: A gangway system for providing access, particularly for handicapped persons, between structures having surfaces which are relatively movable with respect to each other over a range of motion. The gangway includes a plurality of alternating ramp and platform members hingedly coupled to one another, the ends of the gangway being in contact with the surfaces of the structures. The platform members are supported by support members fixed in position relative to one of the structures and, over the range of motion, as the surfaces move vertically relative to one another the ramps and platforms come to rest in sequence adjacent the surface of the other structure. The lengths of the ramps are selected to be less than a preselected value and their slopes are selected so as not to exceed a preselected value during use so that handicapped access is facilitated.

摘要: An electronic device may have a display such as a liquid crystal display. The display may have an array of display pixels. The array of display pixels may display images for a user in an active area of the display. An inactive area of the display may surround the active area. An opaque masking layer may be provided in the inactive area to block internal components in the electronic device from view. An optical component such as a light-based proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, image sensor, or light-emitting status indicator may be aligned with an opening in the opaque masking layer. A liquid crystal shutter may be provided in the display. The liquid crystal shutter may be controlled by control circuitry in the electronic device. The liquid crystal shutter may be aligned with the opening in the opaque masking layer in the inactive area and with the optical component.

摘要: An underwater communication system capable of being delivered by a missileor detonating a plurality of charges in a timed sequence. The system includes a main power supply, decelerometer means, separation switch means for electrically interconnecting and energizing the decelerometer means and said main power supply upon receipt of an arming signal from the missile, thermal battery means, means coupled to said decelerometer means for deploying a parachute and for energizing the thermal battery means, timer means for releasing the explosive charges in a predetermined sequence and means couples to the thermal battery means for energizing the timer means.

摘要: An electronic device may have a display such as a liquid crystal display. The display may have an array of display pixels. The array of display pixels may display images for a user in an active area of the display. An inactive area of the display may surround the active area. 摘要: A portable hard rock crusher unit especially useful for low clearance underground mines. Material to be crushed is horizontally fed to the rotary crusher jaws. A curved convergent material flow-path is employed between two crusher jaws. The outer member of the crusher is a substantially stationary outer curved concave jaw and its inner jaw member is a cylindrical element mounted to give eccentric motion on a shaft. The inner member may freely rotate on its eccentric or it may also be rotatably driven. Material fed between the inner and outer jaw members of the crusher encounters a progressively narrower opening as it is crushed and moved by the peristaltic pumping action caused by the eccentric motion of the movable inner crusher element acting against the outer stationary jaw.

摘要: A boring apparatus having a working member mounted for rotation on a lubricated bearing about a shaft member, the apparatus being of the type in which substantial radial and axial relative motion between said members occurs in response to radial and axial loading conditions encountered by the working member during operation in an abrasive laden external environment, including an improved seal assembly between the members for sealing the bearing from the environment while accommodating the radial and axial relative motion, the seal assembly comprising a seal carrier mounted in a space between the members, a dynamic seal element supported between the carrier and one of the members to form a dynamic seal therebetween, and a static seal element supported between the carrier and a radially extending surface of the other of the members, the dynamic seal element being axially slidable along the one member to accommodate the axial relative motion, the static seal element being deformable and radially slidable along the surface to accommodate said radial relative motion.

摘要: The invention is directed to a method of in situ extraction of a constituent of a rock formation, e.g., copper deposits or particular petroleum deposits as found in oil shale, and to a method of preparing the rock formation for in situ extraction of the rock constituent. Various embodiments of a side excavating machine are also disclosed for preparing the rock for in-situ extraction of a constituent therefrom. The excavating machine breaks the rock in-situ in a manner to form a narrow, horizontal flow-directing chamber in the rock-filled with fluid-permeable broken rock.

摘要: A cam-action expanding standoff connector and related method are disclosed for mounting a circuit board. The standoff connector includes a body and a plurality of mounting members having interior longitudinally-extending camming portions for engagement by a cam. A cam is configured to be positioned within the mounting members in a first position in which the mounting members are not expanded against the interior of a mounting opening and in a second position in which the cam engages the camming portions to expand the plurality of mounting members against the interior of the mounting opening. Since the camming action is horizontal only (purely radial), practically no vertical forces are applied to the circuit board and a best-fit alignment between a circuit board and heatsink can be established and maintained.

摘要: In a drag bit excavating device having a plurality of cutting elements, each element comprising a core extending along an axis; a bit carrier supported on the core; cutter bits supported by the carrier along a three dimensional spiral having constant pitch and increasing radius along at least a portion of the axis, the carrier being relieved to provide radially extending spaces between the turns of the spiral; a frame supporting the core, carrier, and bits for rotation about and advance along the axis; and a drive to provide rotation, whereby bits slot the material to be excavated while the material between portions of the resulting slot extends into the spaces to be subsequently broken away; support means for supporting the elements in an array sloping along a plane with their respective axes parallel to each other, the plane sloping in a direction transverse to the axes, the axes being spaced along the plane in the direction of slope, the elements having their drives arranged so that each core, carrier, and bit assembly rotates clockwise when viewed along its axis with the plane sloping upwardly to the right.
