Each sucking hole of the sucking unit is formed by a through hole section communicating with the decompression chamber and a sucking chamber having a larger area of a sucking surface opposed to the recording medium than a sectional area of the through hole section.

Hereby, a leading end of the medium, after pulled into the dimples once, is transported in the pulled state. Therefore, it is prevented that the leading end of the medium is curled up by a conventional partition wall provided in the direction perpendicular to the medium transporting direction, so that it is possible to prevent a stain on the medium caused by contact with a recording head.
