摘要： A ballast for a discharge lamp includes a fluorescent lamp, an AC/DC conversion portion, a dimming control portion, and a DC/AC conversion portion. The AC/DC conversion portion converts a phase-controlled input AC voltage to a DC voltage. The dimming control portion calculates a dimming control signal from the input AC voltage. The DC/AC conversion portion converts the DC voltage from the AC/DC conversion portion to a high frequency AC voltage to be applied to the fluorescent lamp and lights and dims the lamp in response to the dimming control signal. The DC/AC conversion portion has a first operation mode for maintaining the lighting of the fluorescent lamp and for lighting and dimming the same and a second operation mode for supplying the fluorescent lamp with a voltage lower than the starting voltage of the lamp in its non-operating state. The conducting period of the phase-controlled AC voltage can be detected even in the non-operating state of the fluorescent lamp so as to restart the lamp.

摘要： A ballast for a fluorescent lamp includes a high frequency power source circuit for supplying a preheat start type fluorescent lamp with preheating and lighting current via an inductor. The high frequency power source circuit includes at least two switching elements for controlling application of voltages of different polarity to the fluorescent lamp, a self-exciting type switching element driving circuit for driving the switching elements so as to alternate on and off repeatedly; and a timer circuit for detecting lapse of a predetermined time from start of the ballast for the fluorescent lamp. The switching element driving circuit shortens an ON-period of at least one of the switching elements to restrict an increase of an amplitude of current flowing in the inductor during a period until the timer circuit detects lapse of a predetermined time.

摘要： The present invention relates to an inverter driven lamp arrangement. The arrangement provides for the sensing of both lamp voltage and current. The arrangement also provides for a large current during times of low voltage and a small current during times of high voltage. The sensing of lamp current is done by a current detector that is connected to a resonance circuit whose output is applied in signal form to a lamp start control circuit. The resonant circuit is a series connected resonant circuit composed of a choke coil and a first capacitor. This series connected arrangement is further connected in series with a second non-resonant capacitor. Also the arrangement includes circuitry to gradually reduce the frequency of the inverter just after the lamp starts.

摘要： A discharge lamp operating apparatus or a compact self-ballasted fluorescent lamp includes: an AC/DC conversion unit 5 for converting an alternating voltage phase-controlled by a dimmer 2 into a direct current voltage; a DC/AC conversion unit 6 for converting an output from the AC/DC conversion unit 5 into a high frequency voltage and applying the high frequency voltage to a discharge lamp, whereby the discharge lamp is intermittently operated; and a dimming control unit 7 which generates a dimming instruction signal for driving the DC/AC conversion unit 6 so that the discharge lamp performs an intermittent operation and outputs the dimming instruction signal to the DC/AC conversion unit via a photocoupler 9, and synchronizes the timings of turn-ON and turn OFF of the phase-controlled voltage with the timings of turn-ON and turn OFF of an operation of the DC/AC conversion unit 6, respectively.
