    摘要: A pad for an air bag comprises an outer covering including an upper wall part, hinge portions disposed at a periphery of the upper wall part, and side wall parts extending from the hinge portions. The side wall parts together with the upper wall part and the hinge portions of the outer covering are adapted to substantially confine the air bag when the air bag is in an uninflated condition. The upper wall part is conditionable to permit the airbag to escape the confines of the outer covering in response to an inflation of the air bag. The pad also includes a synthetic resin insert having a base part, collar parts, and lid parts respectively embedded in the side wall parts, the hinge portions, and the upper wall part of the outer covering. The collar part couples the base part with the lid parts. The hinge portions and the respective collar parts embedded therein are bendable to permit the air bag to escape the confines of the pad when the upper wall part is conditioned to permit the airbag to escape the confines of said outer covering in response to the inflation of the air bag. At least one of the collar parts has a smoothly curved configuration and joins the base part at an inwardly cut portion thereof.

    摘要: A pad for a steering wheel includes a membrane switch forming member and a cover member. The switch forming member includes a switch body and a support plate. The switch body has a plurality of conductive thin metal sheets and an insulating space interposed between the metal sheets. The support plate is made of rigid synthetic resin for supporting the switch body on its upper face and is formed in its outer peripheral edge with a plurality of mounting holes extending vertically. The cover member covers the air bag of an air bag device and is formed with a rapture portion adapted to be ruptured when the air bag is inflated, and mounting ribs projecting from the back face thereof and engaged with the mounting holes of the support plate. At least one of the outer peripheral edge of the support plate and the back face of the cover member is formed with gap regulating projections for setting a predetermined gap between the upper face of the support plate back face of the cover member.

The pad includes an upper wall portion and side wall portions extending downward from the periphery of the upper wall portion. Cover portions adapted to be opened upon breakage of a breakage portion at the time of expansion of the air bag are formed over the upper wall portion. A predetermined number of vertically extending triangular plate-shaped ribs are integrally molded with the upper wall portion and the side wall portions along the periphery of the breakage portion and extend from the side wall portions to the breakage portion.

The pad 10 includes a covering layer 14 made of a soft synthetic resin, a hard insert 15 embedded in the side wall 12 of the pad 10, and a pressure sensitive switch 18 having metal sheets 19, 20 and 21 which offer a shape-retaining property and functioning as the horn switch. The pressure sensitive switch 18 is disposed on a rear surface of the upper wall 11 of the pad 10 with end portions 19 a, 20a and 21a thereof retained by the insert 15.
