Logging while drilling (LWD) mechanical calipers are disclosed. An example apparatus to characterize a bore includes a drill collar, a sliding sleeve that moves longitudinally relative to the drill collar, and a sliding block operatively coupled to the sliding sleeve and movable relative to the drill collar. The example apparatus also includes a caliper arm operatively coupled to the sliding block, where the caliper arm is to displace radially outward towards an inner diameter of the bore based on movement of the sliding block, and a caliper sliding sensor to measure a movement of the sliding block.
Abstract:
A technique includes acquiring dry condition and wet measurements using an optical spectrometer for a plurality of lamp intensities. The technique includes determining candidate maximum optical densities as a function of the lamp intensities based at least in part on a reference measurement that is acquired by the spectrometer, the reference measurement and does not vary with respect to the lamp intensities. The technique includes determining an optical density linear dynamic range based at least in part on the candidate maximum optical densities.
Abstract:
A fluid sensor for a downhole tool positionable in a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation. The downhole tool has a housing with a flowline therethrough receiving a downhole fluid therein. The fluid sensor includes an insulative base positionable in the downhole tool, a conductive shield positionable on the insulative base, and a plurality of electrodes each having a non-conductive coating thereon. Each of the electrodes includes a sensing element and a pin. The sensing element is positionable in the insulative base and exposed to the downhole fluid passing through the flowline. The pin operatively connects the sensing element to a downhole unit whereby parameters of the downhole fluid are measured.
Abstract:
A vibrating wire viscometer and cartridge for the same are provided. The cartridge includes a body member with a flowline for passing fluid, an electrically conductive wire disposed in the flowline, first and second electrically conductive posts, and a connector having first and second electrically conductive terminals. The first and second posts are mechanically coupled to the body member to hold the wire in tension within the flowline. The first and second terminals are connected to the first and second posts for applying an alternating electric current to the wire, respectively.

An optical window assembly of an optical sensor of a downhole tool positionable in a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation. The downhole tool has a housing with a flowline there through to receive downhole fluid therein. The optical sensor is positionable about the flowline to measure light passing therethrough. The optical window assembly includes a tubular sensor body positionable in the housing (the sensor body having a sensor-end and a flanged signal-end with a passage there through), an optical window positionable in the passage of the sensor body to pass the light from the flowline to the optical sensors, a seal disposed about the sensor body, and a backup ring disposed about the sensor body between the flanged signal-end and the seal to support the seal about the sensor body whereby the downhole fluid is prevented from leaking between the seal and the sensor body.
