    Abstract: A technique facilitates assembly and deployment of a sand screen assembly string. The sand screen assembly string is constructed by providing sequential base pipe joints combined with corresponding alternate path tubes. The sequential base pipe joints are joined together in a manner which brings sequential, corresponding alternate path tubes into close proximity with each other at a location external to the sequential base pipe joints. The sequential, corresponding alternate path tubes are readily coupled together by a connector which is movably mounted along at least one of the alternate path tubes for movement into engagement with the other alternate path tube.

According to an embodiment, a completion system comprises a screen assembly and an alternate path system disposed along the screen assembly. The alternate path system may include a transport tube and a packing tube placed in fluid communication at a manifold. The manifold is disposed along the screen assembly. In some embodiments, the completion system may comprise multiple screen assemblies with multiple corresponding manifolds. The packing tube is protected against erosion by a liner and a surrounding housing which are positioned to conduct fluid flow from the manifold as fluid flow moves from the transport tube, through the manifold, and into the packing tube during a gravel packing operation.

    Abstract: A technique facilitates formation of a gravel pack. A well completion is provided to facilitate improved gravel packing during a gravel packing operation and subsequent production. The well completion is constructed to freely return a gravel pack carrier fluid through a base pipe during gravel packing. A valve system is positioned to enable restriction of fluid flow into the base pipe following the gravel packing operation. The valve system may be selectively actuated to restrict the fluid flow into the base pipe via a signal such as a pressure signal or timed electric signal.
