The first contact is electrically connected to the first portion of the second electrode, and the second contact is electrically connected to the second portion of the second electrode. An insulating layer insulates the bridge wire from the first electrode and exposes the first contact and the second contact.

The device includes a waveguide and a substrate holding a liquid crystal layer, wherein radiation propagates through the waveguide via total internal reflection. The radiation receiving element may be positioned across the waveguide from the radiation emitting element.
