摘要： The invention provides an information playback apparatus and method by which enjoyment of a DVD can be restricted with certainty. A disk ID of a DVD video whose enjoyment is to be restricted and a password are stored in a corresponding relationship to each other in a flash ROM. When the DVD video of the disk ID stored in the flash ROM is loaded, a controller permits playback of the DVD video only if the corresponding password is inputted.

摘要： Provided are: a turn table for storing a disk shaped recording medium Dn to be vertically placed; a disk drive unit disposed at the center part of the table, the disk drive unit mounting a recording medium Dn to record and/or reproduce an information signal SIN; disk carrying means for carrying the recording medium Dn between the disk drive unit and the turn table; and a control device, wherein the control device controls the turn table and disk carrying medium so as to detect whether or not the recording medium Dn is stored in the disk storage unit, judge an information recording face of the recording medium Dn removed from the disk storage unit, and based on the judgment result, mount the recording medium Dn intact on the disk drive unit or invert the recording medium Dn, thereby remounting the medium on the disk drive.In this manner, even in the case a recording medium is mounted to be oriented in opposite, a user can automatically mount the recording medium with its information recording face toward a disk drive unit without removing the recording medium from the unit.

摘要： An image compression apparatus includes: first and second imaging sections for capturing an image of a subject to generate first and second image signals, respectively; first and second encoding sections for encoding the first and second image signals to generate first and second image data, respectively; first and second distance measuring sections for measuring a distance to the subject for each of image blocks, at the same time as the first and second imaging sections perform image capturing, to generate first and second distance information, respectively; first and second multiplexing sections for generating first and second multiplexed data on the basis of the first and second image data and the distance, respectively, by respectively multiplexing the first and second image data and first and second distance data, which are generated on the basis of the first and second distance information and indicate the distance to the subject for each of predefined pixel blocks in the first and second image data, respectively; and a compression processing section for reducing amounts of the first and second multiplexed data to generate compressed data. The compression processing section generates the compressed data by extracting long-distance blocks in the first and second image data on the basis of the first and second distance data, respectively, calculating a differential between the long-distance blocks in the first and second multiplexed data, and deleting the long-distance blocks in the first or second multiplexed data which are identical to their counterparts in the other multiplexed data.
