摘要: A lightweight shock absorber has an ideal F-S waveform, and is formed of a foam resin material. The cross-sectional area of the absorber in the compression axis direction and the vertical direction changes at least partially in the compression axis direction, and consequently the relation between distortion and compressive stress in the compression axis direction (F-S waveform) is approximately linear.

摘要: A main body portion (12) of an impact absorber (10) is a three-dimensional structure formed of stiff polyurethane foam. A ratio (W2/W1) of a width W2 of a slot (30) formed in an impact surface (12A) of the main body portion (12) to a width W1 of the impact surface (12A) of the main body portion (12) is in a range from ⅙ to ½. In consequence, when a knee area M1 of an occupant M impacts against the impact surface (12A) of the main body portion (12) of the impact absorber (10), a concentration of loading on the impact surface (12A) in an initial impact period is suppressed because the slot (30) is formed in the impact surface (12A), which is most liable to bear the load in the initial impact period, and the load is dispersed. Thus, a large breakage or significant scattering of the main body portion (12) of the impact absorber (10) in the initial impact period may be suppressed, and amounts of impact absorption energy in a middle impact period and a later impact period may be assured.

摘要: An energy absorbing member has a mounting portion with a reinforced proximal end, and is easy to produce. The energy absorbing member (20) includes a disc-like main body portion (21) comprised of foamed resin such as hard urethane foam, a mounting portion (22) protruding from the side surface of the main body portion (21), and a reinforcing piece (23) embedded in the mounting portion (22). The reinforcing piece (23) extends from the mounting portion (22) to the interior of the main body portion (21). A mounting hole 24 is formed in the mounting portion (22), for securing the energy absorbing member (20) to a core member or the like. The mounting hole (24) extends through the reinforcing piece (23) in the thickness direction of the mounting portion (22).
