Abstract: The present invention relates to an oil-based cosmetic having the innovative, unprecedented property in which the ultraviolet protection effects increase due to heat. The oil-based cosmetic of the present invention contains (A) an ultraviolet protectant; and (B) at least one compound that is water-soluble and that has an IOB of 5.0 or lower, selected from among (i) alkylene oxide derivatives and (ii) polyhydric alcohols; wherein the (B) (i) alkylene oxide derivatives are polyoxyalkylene/polyoxyethylene copolymer dialkyl ethers represented by the following formula (I): R1O-[(AO)m(EO)n]—R2   (I) wherein R1 and R2, each independently, denote a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having one to four carbon atoms, AO denotes an oxyalkylene group having three or four carbon atoms, EO denotes an oxyethylene group, 1≤m≤70, 1≤n≤70 and m+n≤40; and the oil-based cosmetic has a water content of 5% by mass or less.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a cosmetic in which the ultraviolet protection effects are increased by heat, and a method for manufacture thereof. The manufacturing method of the present invention includes
    (1) a step of preparing a sample composition containing (A) an ultraviolet protectant and (B) one or more humectants that have an IOB of 5.0 or lower and that are selected from among alkylene oxide derivatives and polyhydric alcohols; and
    (2) a step of selecting a sample composition in which ultraviolet protection effects are increased after heat treatment in comparison to before heat treatment, in accordance with an evaluation method including the following steps (i) to (iv): (i) a step of forming a coating film of the sample composition on a substrate, (ii) a step of heat-treating the coating film of the sample composition, (iii) a step of measuring ultraviolet protection effects of the coating film of the sample composition that has not been heat-treated and of the coating film of the sample composition that has been heat-treated, and (iv) a step of comparing the measured ultraviolet protection effects.

Abstract: The purpose of the present invention is to newly provide a method with which it is possible to appropriately evaluate the protective effect of an external preparation for skin such as a sunscreen cosmetic, particularly to evaluate how a UV-ray protective effect is affected by heat. This evaluation method is characterized by including (1) a step for forming a coating film of an external preparation for skin on a substrate, (2) a step for heat-treating the coating film of the external preparation for skin, and (3) a step for measuring the UV-ray protective effect of the heat-treated coating film of the external preparation for skin. The heat treatment is preferably carried out for at least one minute at a temperature of 30-70° C. The step for measuring the UV-ray protective effect preferably includes at least one selected from testing methods that involve comparing some kind of UV-ray protective effect with SPF measurement, UVAPF or PFA measurement, critical wavelength measurement, absorbance measurement, and transmittance measurement. This evaluation method can also be performed in vivo or in vitro.

Abstract: A water-in-oil emulsified cosmetic preparation that, even without substantially comprising a UV scattering agent: exhibits a higher UV protection effect than immediately after application, as a result of coming in contact with moisture, has excellent appearance, usability, and washability. The water-in-oil emulsified cosmetic preparation includes 6%-40% by mass of a UV absorber (A), an oil phase thickener (B), and at least one hydrophobic powder (C) selected from (i)-(iii), namely (i) hydrophobized talc, (ii) silicone powder having an average particle diameter of at least 30 μm, and (iii) crosslinked polymethyl methacrylate powder having a crosslinking density of at least 40%; and not including a UV scattering agent or containing no more than 6% by mass of same.
